Do mares come into season in the winter? I always thought they didn't but mine was showing all the signs tonight when she lifted her tail. Anyone elses mare the same at this time of year? Thinking about it, aren't racehorses usually born about January, which would make this post rather dumb - sorry.

I don't think race horses are born in January they just all have their bday on 1st Jan to standardize their age for racing I guess.

Don't know about seasons though, sorry!

Yes, we have a couple tarting on the yard at the moment

we think our mare might be coming into season as she is getting quite tetchy. a mare at our old yard has comeinto season since a new gelding moved into their block, an danother mare at our new yard is almost always in season, she pretty much has a human womans cycle!

TB foals are born as near to Jan 1 as poss, helps if they race at 2. They bring the mares in using lights and hormones.

My mare, a slapper if ever there was one - is in season at the mo, loved all the boys out hunting on Wednesday.

All mares come into season all year round, if they are given a chance they can have a foal at anytime of the year which can be seen in wild horses. When we have taken one of my mares up to the stud, i'm sure the stud manager said that horses come into season every21 days.
Thats especially great for me, saying as I have 5 mares and they all become moody, and giddy! lol

Mine has just come into season today - she was charging around the T/O paddock with her tail up snorting and doing that vile winking thing they do (sooooooooooo gross lol

She's been 'funny' for a couple of weeks though so I was kinda relieved to have an explanation.
