My mare was always hot as they say.A10yo ISH Chestnut mare. She never stopped at fences, she might have snorted and looked but with leg on,a shout or a tap from the whip she would carry on without much giving out.I use her for eventing, she can be quite excitable but once I have her calm she works really well in open classes. Anyway, last year she was out as she had a foal. October2011-December2012 she was out of work due to being pregnant and weaning etc.I have been riding her nearly everyday since 1 month twice a week since december, doing the same routine, take in from field, tack up, lunge, ride (mostly groundwork ) and she is nearly becoming increasingly spooky. Every time I trot out the little road way around the yard I have her in( It all closed in private property) she will spook every single time and I have to take my time with her (slow snorty trot) or she could spot something and stick all for legs to the ground for a second and then proceed as she was. She does not dump me, nor have I fallen off at any off her shyings. Saying this she has not left the yard training anywhere since I have her back, and there are big competitions coming up I really want to compete in.I do not have anyone else to ride a horse alongside with me to help her nerves, or to any training days out or in the yard.Any ideas as to how I can help her with her nerves, or what my problem could be?Recently got teeth done and back is ok if that helps. It really upsets me that she acts this way as she was always such a competitive horse that loved to show off how brave she was, although she could look at a fence she was always the first horse over it, compared to the other horses.

Sounds more like an insecurity thing might need to work just inside her comfort zone then proceed on further?

I am currently working my way through the Parelli level 2 DVDs and there are some interesting tips in them.

Could be mineral inbalances have you checked her diet?

She is out on grass at the moment, was under weight with little work but now she has really filled out on the new grass, is looking well and in work nearly everyday for the past month. I used to give her a whole load of supplements before she was in foal, and while she was in foal she was getting a pregnancy supplement so the foal wouldnt take minerals from he etc but now since she is back in work I just have her on the bare minimum. She is just on a conditioning mix( mostly protein) and a hand full of oats maybe once a week. Oh and she also gets a cap full of vitamin mix(to use the rest of this as her and the foal needed it when he was born due to complications, it is full of vitamins). What do you think could help?

Im from New Zealand so can't recommend anything that would help you. Do an as fed analysis and see what supplement balances your diet (forgae testing is a good idea). There are some online programmes which will do it for you.
