I noticed this morning my mare had started to drip a small amount of yellowy sticky looking liquid, which i believe is colostrum. Is this normal? Is this okay as long as she isnt loosing lots and has the foal with next few days? Sorry first time at breeding and panicking slightly. Any info most appreciated!

Perfectly normal. Mares vary so greatly in how they present on point of foaling. Look at her hindlegs on the inside to see if they are clean or if she has discharged more than you think. One mare of mine has quite a show of colostrum and milk on the day of foaling and another does not even wax up.

Just keep a close eye and look out for behaviours like yawning a lot, chewing bark (if she is out) sweat patches even making faces. Keep a note of what she does near foaling so for next time you will recognise "her" pattern.

How exciting! Very best of luck

I had a welsh/anglo mare that would do this for hours untill it just turned to watery milk but as soon as the foal was on the way... hey presto... her watery milk would turn thick and honey like which i believe was the true colostrum which was controlled by the mares birth hormones.
