my poor girl has a "sensitive" problem on her ermm ladyparts...:o

i noticed yesterday that it had yellow/brown gunk so i cleaned it up and left it. Today i checked it again and it was brown/yellow crusted round it
-bless her she lets me clean it up (and puts up with me almost chucking up in the process) with no trouble

Any ideas on what this is? I did say i would phone the vet and just ask advice tomorow but wondering if any mare owners had the same issue?

I know its not season as thats clear right? not yellow/brown gunk

(never owned a mare before.... so thanks for not laughing too hard...) :D

If she was a dog I would be worried about a pyometra (womb infection) but no idea if this occurs in horses or not. I would be tempted to give your vet a call today. They are there are weekends for emergency call outs but won't mind you giving them a call for this problem just to ask for advise

I wouldn't be too worried, as it sounds like she is in season and it's just what mares do! Some discharge is white, but often it is yellowy and when dries has a tint of brown with it. For some mares this happens every season, others it is just the first few seasons after the winter, then will 'clear' up a bit.
It has a very strong smell about it though!! Do you have any stallions or geldings near by, as this often triggers it all.

It does sound like she is in season. Is it very pongy? But do call your vet tomorrow for a chat as they don't charge for that just in case it's something sinister.

thanks all :)

shes in a field with geldings (its mixed) and shes a tart (lol). not seen her squirt but for any gelding at any time o fyear she will stand there.... lol.

it dosent smell tbh.... so that why i wasnt majorly concerned. shes had a season before that i noticed when i bought her but it was clear... (only had her since last summer)....
