Ohhhh meee its been a long night!
Got home and De Sote was in the stable feeling incredibly sorry for herself. Cuts and blood piddling down from both back legs, cuts to her neck, scrapes on her head etc.
Back legs are already filling up. Helped to clean up the wounds which OH had started doing, the vet was already en-route.
There were a few deep cuts in both back legs, but a lot of superficial ones also. Vet could not see any obvious signs of trauma and she could move her neck up and down and to both sides without seeming in any pain.
We washed down all the injuries and have applied cream to them all. She is also confined to barracks as well. No more paddocks for her just now as we are worried that she goes and does the same now. She will get outside twice daily into our outdoor arena.
She is on a course of antibiotics but the vet was not keen to give her any painkillers with her possibly being in foal.........which for me is a bit more dubious now after what happened today........
If she gets stiffer in the next day or so then we will just have to give her painkillers and keep our fingers crossed.
I could not believe the metal gate..........brand new 14ft gate which is bent double!! Was going to take a picture of it because I would never have believed it, had I not see the state of it for myself. On the bright side at least the gate gave way with her weight...........had it not then the vet thinks we could have been looking at far more serious injuries.........
Just cannot believe it. Its been windy here today and a rain shower had just past. My father in law said all the horses had been set off with the weather, and whether De Sote got a scare and just fled without seeing what was in front of her we just dont know.
The first thing that made the family realise anything had happened was when De Sote galloped past the kitchen window of the house!! My mother-in-law shouted on the OH and by this time De Sote was standing next to her stable wanting in!!
Glad she did not flee through any more gates or fences to get in with the other horses......or even worse the stallion!
Anyway gave her a groom to the bits that are not touched, scratched her chin and gave her the antibiotics..........will see how she fairs in the morning and take it from there.
Dreading getting her scanned now...........
