Hi,

Has anyone had experience of a mare with cycstic ovaries and could advise what the symptoms are and treatments?

I have a mare I have only owned a few months....In the last week she has started refusing to canter when being ridden in the school, stopping dead, bucking, kicking out all with her ears flat back....

My vet has put her on regumate, which she has been on for 4 days but no change....he mentioned cycstic ovaries....

Can anyone help?

Thanks

I knew a pony with them, she was a very stroppy opinionated lady!! But a dream to ride, I cannot fault her to break in, or ride, just a madam in the stable, very temperamental. She settled when she was put in foal, that kept her hormone levels steady and she became the most placid thing ever!! She bred a lovely colt, and once she'd given birth she was back to being the same temperamental cow!! (love her!!) she was I believe put on regumate which did make somewhat of a difference.

Are your mares symptoms only when ridden?? If so could it be the tack, is something causing her pain? Especially if you haven't owned her long, is it new tack your using on her?
