Hi everyone,

I have a 6year old tb mare and the person that I bought her off tried putting her in foal but she got an infection.

Now I had her last year and her season was so heavy, Shes not really a stroppy mare.

Now she came into season on Tuesday and she just seems really under the weather .. That may sound silly but she has this tired look in her eye and just not being herself at the moment.

I can't tell if it's a heavy season yet but has started off light.

I'm just wondering if there is anything that I can give her to help I'm thinking some sort of primrose tea and I was going to put her on magic as she needs a calmer so I was thinking of some sort of primrose/lavender tea? Can I do that?

Any suggestions? If no luck then I will ring and ask for advice from my vet .. They know my mare extremely well so will be able to offer advice ..

But just wondering if there's anything that I can try first?

I have also put this in vetanary aswell

Thank you in advance

Is this her first season of the year? Both first and last of each year do tend to be particularly long and heavy compared to throughout the rest of the year in many mares.

I had one such mare - first season used to drag on for ten days or so and she needed washing at least once or twice a day. Same as the final one in the autumn, although this used to be marginally better.

I used No More Moods, an Equine America product which is pure Vitex Agnus Castus (chasteberry) which gave great relief to her discomfort. Mine wasn't moody either, just depressed/ lethargic at these times and chasteberry balances the hormones. No More Moods was the most economical and convenient form I could find to provide chasteberry. Works for PMT in women too.

With my mare I never even knew when she was in season except for the odd winking ocasionally, now since putting her unsuccessfully to a stallion last year (she also caught nasty infection) her seasons are very heavy & last a very long time :( Energy wise she is fine :)
