Mares in season casuing colic- any experience?

Had to have the vet to Dream today- poor thing. Since I bought her I have noticed on 1 or 2 occasions that she looked uncomfatable in the field, this has happened with a gap of a few weeks in between. She stretches out as if she wants a wee but doesn't. She then looks around at her tummy. I thought it was the onset on colic so on both occasions I have got her in- by the time she gets to her box she is fine again- very odd.
This happened again today but this time she seemed anmd try tro lie on the concrete. I had the vet to her and by the time he got there she was ok again-typical! Anyway I got him to check her over and he said she was just coming into season and her ovaries were sore. He thinks that the hormones cause her to be sore across her muscles and causes symptoms of colic.
Has anyone else had any experience of this?
 
Had vet out two weeks ago for Cassie. Thought she had colic as she had it bad last march Vet said she could feel follicles(eggs) on her ovaries. She was having stomach cramps like we would have period pains. Never heard of this in forty years of horses. She gave her pain relief and tubed her to be on safe side. Said not related to last year. She was fine next day.
 
i have heard of a horse having colic from her seasons. she had her ovaries out. mine had hers out last summer because she was in such pain when in season.

Sorry to hear bout your poorly girl. We had this with TB type that I loaned from a friend whilst titch was injured.

Originally we had TC out, he said sore ovaries and some other tales....etc. No improvement despite having some painkillers.

The mare continually wanted to get down twice a month at similar spaces of time, she was foul tempered during this time poor thing, despite having some medication for pain etc.

Not happy with this, I then got O Gormans out who did scans etc, bloods and it turned out she was uncomfortable but nothing revealed on scan.

We were told to give her Oestress and had good results, as it effectively works a bit like the pill I am told, and stops them coming into season and "levels" them out a bit!

She improved a lot but you have to be VERY strict on giving it at regular intervals and dont stop it if you have good results as they go downhill very quickly again.
