Well, called the vet this morning so they could confirm what I had already thought - my mare is in season and is experiencing a bit of pain and discomfort. She's eating a little bit which is an improvement. I have put her on some bute for a couple of days to ease her pain.

This is the first time she has been like this - must be old age!? She's been really quiet (as opposed to usually being a narky mare!) off her food, dragging her back legs when she walks, awkward back, curling her lip and weeing allot.

How are all your mares doing? any unusual symptoms?

yer i think my mare is in season at the mo bless her, she bin a lil grumpy never really noticed any other time she was in season she is quite a chilled out mare but this time i have notice her kicking out at other horses and squealing a lot
but no nothing realy odd

Mine's out of season now. Last mare was a b1tch in season, this one is a sweetie-pie - lots of cuddles and 'Oh I love you Mummsie' moments

With last mare I bought Oestruss(sp) and Nupafeed. Seemed to work

. Talked to vet about Regumate, but vet said that was the last resort and better to try other things first

Hope your girly is feeling better soon, poor babe.

Hi - I had a mare who would have very strange behaviour when in season - she would lie against walls and be alsmost impossible to ride because she was so uncomfortable. Since she was a good event horse I put her on Regumate and it cured her almost completley. It is expensive but less so than entering a BE event and finding that when you get there your horse really is not in the mood to perform!
