Mares or geldings............discuss!

Mares for me, although am going through difficult hormonal time with mine which caused a dislocated thumb and bust ligament in shoulder. Scan showed v enlarged ovaries, poor thing in agony. I totally empathise with her.. Regumate now. She's such a brave girl with a great attitude.

I've used a marble in my mare before for this problem as my girl can get sore, like you say, it's understandable!
 
Its funny, I just remembered that one of my first ever posts on here years ago was 'Mares,geldings or stallions'

Sorry, I digress. It is mares 100% for me :D I have had mares, geldings and a stallion, but mostly we had mares, and I just love them, and so I purchased another mare this time. I saw lots of nice and bargainous geldings when searching but they are just not for me at all as much as I loved the geldings we had
 
Stallions.:D

I love my stallion to bits, he is the most cuddley, soft and retarted horse ever.:D

I have mares, a gelding and a stallion. I prefer geldings, as they don;t have the monthly period of moodiness.
 
Mares for me. I just get on with so much better them than i do geldings. I have 2 of each at the moment but i have my gelding up for sale as he is a really good jumper and i'm not. I wouldn't swap my daughter's gelding for anything though as he is fantastic with her.
 
mares! i always panic about getting a gelding which then breaks and can't do anything. at least a well bred mare could have some babies.
 
I've got one of each and love them both for different! Gelding had tons of attitude was he wasn't cut til he was 10 and covered lots of mares...he is only 11.2hh and has small man syndrome he is hilarious! Mare is an absolute sweetie, so kind and gentle and a true friend...
 
Don't ever want to have a mare again, can't be doing with the stress, the dominance, the kick first ask questions later mentality with other horses! Boys every time please - I actually swapped our home bred mare for a 10 month old colt, also have a rising three year old, and a 20 year old. Life is so much easier with her gone, the boys are just lovely, all is peaceful. In her defence, she was a doddle to back and ride on, but I definitely prefer boys.
