Does anyone know of a mare that has extra large teats? The mare I am loaning often gets mistaken for a gelding as they are so big.! I know she has had a foal or may be foals in the past and the teats have never caused her a problem. They are soft to touch but look swollen and she is certainly not bothered by them. Any ideas?

yes, my friends mare has them, my friend is a vet and reckons its just the way the mare is

this mare has had foals too

Is she fat?

Last summer, my friend took in a mare with laminitis that belonged to someone else in a neighbouring field as a favour. We both initially thought she was a "he", but something wasn't quite right there when I was up close and looking. Friend took a look (she had mares whereas I only had geldings at the time) and duly pronounced in absolute astonishment that she was a mare. By the way, the tail was clamped very tightly in, we did try to look underneath there for confirmation!

This mare was massively obese and I think the whole thing was so full of fat/fluid that she really did look like a boy.

ETA she was some sort of Irish Cob type we think, very tank like and in 6'9 rugs once she had slimmed down (flies were eating her alive so we covered her up as best we could) but she wasn't much over 15hh. Sadly ended up being PTS.
