Ive had my mare almost 18 months and never noticed her in season. However up until recently she was at home, with a companion, also a mare and no geldings within miles around.
Recently I had to move to a large yard because of the state of my fields. Of course this is a massive change for her and Im really proud of how she is coping. However her focus when schooling has gone awol and she is very argumentative. Is it too early in the year for her to be having seasons and could being on a yard around geldings be bringing them on. Would I know for sure she is in season by her lifting her tail, squirting and flirting or does that not always happen? There is every chance her lack of focus and is related to the change in routine but I figured it would be good to know more about seasons anyway.
