I moved my two mares to a new field a few weeks ago and I have noticed that there are large burnt patched appearing on the grass which appear to be being caused by their urine. I've never had this happen before..does anyone have any idea of the cause?

Hi..thank you for this. I am beginning to get worried now! My mares are out 24/7 and only have a high fibre low energy feed.

I wonder if this feed is causing the problem? I think I will change brands and see if that has any effect. They both appear fine but their paddock is starting to look very strange.

Molly has just had her strongest season ever and there are now patches of urine-burned grass dotted all around the field. I always thought the burns were due to the higher concentration of hormones being excreted during a season as it only seems to occur then. Or is it just a coincidence that it only happens at this time?!

My mare also does the same. 3 brown/ bald patches. No other field on the yard seem to have the patches. I don't think her diet is high in protein so any other ideas?

I just replied on other thread! Plenty of protein in grass at this time of year! In sands I am taking we are getting up to 32% protein levels though that is on the best of cow grass but poorer stuff is still coming in around 27 in the last ten days
