Mare's Urine burning grass?

My Mare's urine appears to be burning the grass which leaves yellow patches (thankfully in just one area). She's on no hard feed or hay/haylage, just grass. We are on sandy soil and the guy from a seed company mentioned that sandy soil is acidic and so urine increases this. I have put down some (seaweed derived neutraliser) alternative to limestone so I can still use my field. Just wondering if anyone has the same issue..... thanks
 
And mine - I have three large burnt patches as she always pees in the same area! Don't think OH has seen it yet, or if he has he has not said anything!
 
The field my horse was in had lots of brown patches on. I think its pretty common, but I have no idea what actually causes it. I suppose that the horses may smell where someone else has had a wee and do theirs on top and eventually the grass loses the will to live - as would anyone with piddle being poured on their head!!
 
We have a mare on livery here that is doing the same thing - I suspect the yellow patches are more from where she has been 'squirting' at the geldings on the other side of the fence, rather than pure wee!!!

If rested the grass will usually come back.
 
Said mare 'squirted' all down my geldings door when tied up next to his stable.....mega gross, and thank god the door was closed!
 
Yup I have this and again on sandy soil. I looked into dog rocks that you get to put in your dogs water bowls to stop this problem but the company kindly emailed explaining it would take over 50 rocks for a horse trough that needed replacing weekly and cost a fortune! Funnily enough I gave up :D they said it would be cheaper to rest and reseed!
 
thanks for the replies.... looks like its just one of those things!! perhaps a hormone thing too... does look unslightly though... like my fields to look all lush!!.....

reseeding I think..
 
I've noticed this too and only have geldings so not just mares' wee.

Horse wee also poisons docks, if you can get your horse to wee on them often enough!
 
I seem to remember reading that it was a sign of excess something in their diet - protein? Not sure, maybe someone else will remember
