Horsey people hear that they should have "marine ply" in there horseboxes, and we get countless people asking for this.....

just to inform people that hear off friends etc about marine ply.

It is designed to be submerged and has been allowed in making to expand with water - (not urine!)

Urine is one of the most corrosive liquids and will easily over time eat through anything!

therfore using it to board a ramp/horse area is not using what it is designed for (water submersion) and it will do no better than normal high quality ply.

We build horseboxes and have had several meetings with wood paneling companies who luaghed ta us when we explained about the need for maine ply in horsebox building.

Basically why use something for a job its not designed to do?

So before anyone goes to get a new ramp/floor fitted. Call up some wood companies and apart from them wanting a bit of extra wonga from you - some may tell you the truth.

Fair comment Tinker 88 - but how about when water splashes up underneath the trailer e.g. from puddles on the road, rain etc? Wouldn't a marine ply exterior at least help in that respect? Or is there some kind of paint perhaps that would work equally well at sealing an underside made of "normal" wood from exterior water?

Not trying to be argumentative here - just curious!

what about wizzideck? (sp?) that's what i was advised to reinforce my last horsebox floor with. was told it is the stuff they line artic floors with, have forklifts running over all the time, immensely strong.
prob not urine-proof though.
ditto aluminium, i've been told it oxidises, crumbles, then can give without warning. is that true?
why doesn't anyone make 1" thick strong PLASTIC flooring panels, they'd be urine-proof, surely, and as long as protected with rubber on top, horse-proof too.
