Mark Todd Lightweight. Utter crapp.

Ive had the mark todd medium weight full neck for a year.... its been in action for a whole 12 months pretty much as ebs wore it when she was ill in the summer... I am impressed... I thought the tail flap was huge in comparison to a lot of the other top makes, none of the fixings have worn or broken, I love the extra wither space, its nice and deep, the neck rug doesn't rub, its still waterproof... I love it, and would go and get MT tomorrow, three other horse owners at my new yard have the same one and we all rave about it

Think they changed this year, so I urge caution if buying another. I had previously loved MT, but sadly they are not what they were.:(

well the one I has is the same as the others that one of the other liveries recently bought... this one:

I have three Mark Todd rugs, a sheet for the stable, a LW and a MW all over 3 years old, no rips and waterproof (reproofed on washing every other year). Yes they are cheap but they are a great fit. Amigos are nowhere near as breatheable in their LW form. And FWIW most rugs are made in the far east now, including the new Rambos (and they are no where near as good as they used to be, my 10 year old Rambo is still going strong, my 1 year old one has fallen to bits). If you want to buy British, proper made rugs then its FAL really.

Wonder if that was old stock the new one have Mark Todd embroidered on them and have MUCH smaller tail flaps and lack the quality of the older one I have. :(

I was gutted as loved my old lightweight, so naturally expected the new one to be the same.

Five years and prior i would not have brought anything else but them..... 5 years ago they changed supplier and they went down hill - nothing like they used to be they were top quality !

Its a shame if they have gone down in quality again - that shocking - bet the price has not though !

I've had many mark todos and never had this problem. They last really well and apart from the odd broken leg strap there really have been no problems.
I'd send it back, sounds faulty.

good observation skills, I missed that... nope mine and all the others have mark todd embroidered on them :D and my tail flap is HUGE!!!

I've not bought a mark todd for a good 5 years but thats because they've always been amazing rugs, I've never had an issue with them! my mare is still wearing her mark todd medium that I got about 9 yrs ago! maybe its a faulty one! or maybe they've changed their quality! but they used to be the best rugs

I have MT's going into their 5th winter!! Unfortunately I think the brand is going downhill as they are having it more cheaply made than ever. Don't even get me started on MT footwear -it's quite dreadful!!

Humpt then I have been robber!! My tail flap is about 1/3rd the size. Are they LW's? Just wondering if the MW/HW are still the old style......... Have a MW with neck in Brown with Coffee trim, that is lovely but I did buy that last year. That has the same massive wrap around tail flap that my old LW has.

I bought my MW 12 months ago, but it has tail flap AND sig, and possibly the ones the other livery bought are the same stock... she got it from the same shop, possibly during their clear out for new stock... but its strange that it seems to have the sig (new style) and the lg flap (old style) However, Im not grumbling lol :D

Have had 2 MT rugs for my young mare and disappointed in both the 1st I gave away the 2nd didn't last long and after many repairs in 6 months up in the attic. The amigos, well I bought Lenny 2 rugs 5ft 3in a turn out and a stable the turn out the belly straps are at their buckle end and just about fits front to back, his stable rug is a little large so will fit for a couple more months and these 2 rugs weren't cheap just under £100. Must admit getting fed up with the made in China label, I don't mind paying for good quailty rugs as they have to last at lest 5 years.

Sorry you've had problems with the rug (though bits sound like a manufacturing fault not the rug per se). But I'm a devoted fan. My last 3 horses have had all Mark Todd rugs. My liveries have other brands, and they are perpetually having to cobble them together with duct tape, or complaining there isn't enough room in the shoulders, or finding the leg/fillet straps have broken or come adrift. Apart from cleaning, and one catch replacement where my mare stood on said catch, I've never had any problems - and some of my MTs are 10-12 years old, I think.

It's probably worth you complainging about the 'webbing' stuff coming off. The tear is I think more likely to be your horse than the rug falling to pieces after 2 days.

I went to check on my living out horse this morning after epic torrential rain most of the night. I was dead impressed that his Mark Todd lightweight is still bone dry underneath.

He has worn it 24-7 the last week or so (with a PE liner underneath) and it has rained, and rained, and rained and not leaked.

It is the blue checked one, that I bought second hand from a friend a few years ago.

Am quite surprised.

bit like his horses then! - owned for 1 year (so doing a bit better than a few days) but now trying to repair from injury due to amazingly high cost of horse....just like the rest of the mark todd brand!!!!

£60 for a hood???????

i only have a mark todd rug cos it came with the horse, but its an old version. although sticking a 6'3 rug on a 17.3hh horse was a bit mean.

It's the old style before they cheapened them - Nothing wrong with the old ones, they are great, shame they changed them for the worse :(
