Mark Todd to make a Comeback??

It will be fascinating to see how it works out. I rode in 3 clinics with him in Canada put on by the people I worked for - it was amazing to watch him ride, really informative to be taught be him and fun to talk to him. I wish him all the luck.

Even if it is a "publicity stunt", so what? Everyone's always whining about how the sport has no profile - figures it would be Toddy doing his bit on that front, too! And, as said, he will still have to meet both FEI and NZ team requirements so it's not like he would be "stealing" a place from someone on a whim. Let's face it, there are lots of people qualifying for the Olympics on far dicier platforms!

As to his "personal life", I, personally, always thought he handled that extremely well. He just shut up and got on with it and eventually everyone lost interest. No one with any sense was exactly scandalised. He's known for being a fantastic rider and horseman, not for being a priest or right wing politician or an anti-drug crusader so it's not even hypocrisy. I've never understood why people expect people they admire for their skills to be saints.

I do think it's an odd choice of ways to spend his time and money but I'm sure he has his reasons and it's not like he doesn't know what's at stake. It will be great to watch!

Agree with you Cruiser but .... unlike the rest of the NZ riders in the UK he's not funding it himself. NZ Bloodstock are paying all of his expenses, Whittaker are supplying him a lorry of his choice so long as it has his name on it and I am reliably informed by another NZ eventer who was talking to him in Christchurch last week that he's not doing it for NZ, he's doing it for the money - he's got mortgages to pay and what better way of paying them. No great suprise to hear that Blyth's planning a comeback for London 2012! No doubt it will be back to the 'dream team' feathering their own nests again and running NZEF into the red.
