I swear by them now! used to use weatherbeeta ( whole range as I am an addict!!), but used to rub boy's shoulders and slip back. I bought Todd ones as have the gusseted neck so when horse is grazing with head down, the neck part is still on ears, unlike other rugs when the neck is half way up their neck, letting in wind and rain! My chap lives out all year and the rugs have been excellent. He has the heavy, medium and lightweight ones! Especially good for big shoulders. On the combo's, the fill is the same in the neck part as on the body, unlike most other makes where there is at least 100g less in the neck.
I have the autumner and medium weight and as I'm tight the JHL heavy necks for my 400g rugs. The mark todd ones are nice and I haven't had one leak
The only thing I would say is that the heavy weight is only 350g, and I'd prefer something a bit warmer as we live in a very cold and windy village and I cannot be bothered with layers!!
I've got the ultimate stable rug + neck, light stable and the heavyweight, medium weight + neck but it fits all of them and lightweight turnout.
I tend to veer towards them if I need a new rug (though all but one of these are heading towards their 4th winter) because they a nice deep fit. I find the length is fractionally inconsistent - I have two in 6'3 and the rest needed to be 6'6.
G has kept his mane too, YO uses other brands with inbuilt necks and hers lost their manes a bit last winter. Mine haven't leak but do get less waterproof with time but its nothing a bit of reproof won't fix...and mine have only been done once.
Can't help with the outdoor but I'd certainly bouch for the heavyweight indoors and the sheets - fab rugs. In fact, I'm looking for a 6'3" hw indoor and neck at the moment..
i have a lightweight and its my favorite rug, fits my 16.1 tb like and dream and hasn't rubbed him at all. in the past i have found it quite hard to get one that fits him because he has such a high wither and pronounce shoulders.
Don't know about the heavyweights but i had a lightweight for my old pony and it lasted him 5yrs and never rubbed. Friend had a heavyweight indoor which was a lovely rug.
I love my Mark Todd Lightweight. I actually found it covered in dust and webs at my last yard. Nobody claimed it so I washed and reproofed it. 2 years on it is still waterproof and a lovely fit
I have this rug and it is seriously toasted warm - so much so that Ronnie only had it on for a couple of weeks last winter (admittedly he only had a sort of blanket clip but without the bum taken off). He does err on the side of being a warm horse. It fits his massive shoulders fine and seems to be a perfect size. Doesn't slip and hoses clean quite nicely.
Fantastic rug's Mac winters out in his and stays bone dry and very warm.
It's now 4 years old and still going strong.
Sizing is spot on to so don't order up a size or it will drown your horse.
I bought 2 at Burghley, 6'6 and a 6'3. I have some other MT products that have stood the test of time so figured the rugs hopefully will do the same. They are lovely but haven't actually used them yet so can't comment on that. My old faithful HW Rambo is 8 years old now & although still perfect thought I'd update. One thing I loved about the MT was the hood, I detest detachable hoods & they all seem to be made this way now. The MT isn't detachable.
