Hi there folks - I have a large very stocky 16.2hh horse and I am looking to buy him a new rug and have looked at the Mark Todd Heavyweight turnout combo . we will need either a 6' 9" or 7' as he is chunky around the neck. I was just wondering if anyone has bought these before and what your opinions of them are. They seem quite deep which would be good as everything else seems rather short on the sides!! which is not good on a fat tum!!
thanks folks - happy christmas to you and your horses!!

I have one... they are good but like the stable rugs I have found they can rub on the neck where the buckles are!

P_G uses them I think too, so maybe she could give you some good advice

I have loads of Mark Todd rugs. I really like them they are just practical and dont rip too easily! Do rub, but then I havent found a rug that doesnt rub my horse yet.

On sizing. My 14hh has 5ft9, n my 15.1 has 6ft3, so prob would get the bigger size than the small size!

thanks folks - have also looked at Rambo wugs I have about £100 to spend and would like to get something of good quality as opposed to spending £50 a year on something thats not worth cleaning and reproofing! Any other suggestions would be appreciated thanks

I love my Mark Todd without a neck, fits perfectly, but i tried the combo, and the neck cover is a very strange shape, unless it is just my donkey, but it did seem really weird. Took it back and got the lurvly shires one that is one the front of their catalogue, it is so nice, dont want to turn her out in it though because it is so nice! My bday and xmas prezzie!

the other thing was that i found the nck too long for my girly, it came down over her ears which did not amuse her! As long as it fits properly im sure he wont mind it one bit.

i love mine. i have a LW and a MW with detachable neck and i love both. the tail flaps are fab, the rugs are actually deep enough to cover his fat belly and the neck cover if anything is a little short and not wide enough and it's a large and he's only 15.1hh, but he does have hell of a neck. he needs 6ft9 (compared to 6ft3 in FAL), to get the length needed as he's got very broad shoulders and a big chest, but it fits fab and he's been wearing it 24/7 for ages now and no signs of any rubbing.

Love Mark Todd rugs, never had a problem and haven't found them to rub! Plus they're a perfect fit for my chunkier 16.1 ISH, I think his Mark Todd is a 6'6, but maybe even a 6'3.

I love my Mark Todd. It fits like a dream, is totally waterproof (even after cleaning), the soft woolly lining is so cosy, and it doesn't rub. My horse likes it, too:

Hi guys - thanks for all your input - have just purchased a MT heavyweight combo off ebay and it should be here tomorrow - Cheval looks like a suffolk punch so hopefully your nice comments will mean he will be as snug as a bug in a rug - will let you know how it fits tomo afternoon when I go and sort him out
many thanks

happy christmas to you and your horsesxxx
Louise

Know I missed the comments but another recommendation here - sure you'll be very happy with your MT combo, I have them for both my 2!! I find necks just about the right length does come over their ears occasionally but better that than my OH's mares's Masta which billows out like a windsock!!
MT is really nice and deep, I went for the size up ad they have bags of space, even have underrugs (MT again!) on them now in this bitter weather and still nice and spacious, no sign of rubbing.
So hope you are as happy with your as I am with mine!

I have a lightweight that I use on my 2 year old and it's fab. Tried to order an Amigo lite weight but there weren't any in stock so got this instead and I'm really pleased with it.

thanks guys - the rug fits him a treat - its long and covers all extremities even though he is built the back end of the proverbial big bus. He doesn't have a problem with the neck cover although he has never had one on before and a tail flap that actually protects his bum and tail properly is a big bonus.
