Hi there,

I was interested in whether there would be a market for advice on thoroughbred breeding advice aimed at those who are currently in the sport with mares or looking to buy a mare to breed with?

From what I can see online it seems to be that this sort of industry is very privatized with a who you know over what you know sort of feel to it and wonder if there was space for someone with a sound racing knowledge to start up a Business in this sector.

I know what you mean, but my honest gut instinct is there is more likely a better market for advising people not to breed any more TBs..there are rakes of them that are bred and easily tens or hundreds that don't even get the chance to get into training..many will also be pts because early/late too big/small on arrival-i even recently heard some were pts because the owner didn't like the markings.:eek::eek::mad:

Owners are pretty much in 2 categories where TB's are concerned..those who are horsey and those who arent't & just want a money machine. The latter will only go for the money bloodstock in order to get as good a chance as possible to win big..the rest I guess will have pretty much an idea or be guided by vet/trainer/what is fashionable at the moment stud wise.

Being very honest with you as well, and all meant in nicest possible way, no one is going to pay when studs and trainers will be pushing their own ideas...the bigger owners will likely have their own mares bought for the purpose of using a specific stallion, so I doubt any money to be made there a its a very closed cliquey world in racing as you've kind of hinted on already.. also you run the risk of getting blamed if progeny is unsucessful - petty?yes...but sadly thats the way many owners are - particularly those that are solely in it for the 'love of racing' (money) and we live in a society where blame alway needs a new owner!

Good luck whatever you decide tho :)
