Is there a market for stables that are unable to be run off mains power having solar panels installed with sockets and lights being run off the solar panels - this would be aimed at people that have upto 6 stables or farmers with outbuildings in the middle of nowhere that can't be connected to houses etc for electricity. The advantage of solar panels over a generator would be generators are easily stolen, and once installed solar panels are totally free to run.

For how much they cost compared to how much electric used I am not sure, plus the roofs have to be very strong and south facing.

I'm not sure there is.

I've got them on my (rented) stables. My husband did it for me. The main reason we did it was that I don't plan on moving from this yard for many many years, so therefore it was worth the outlay in the first place. Many renters move frequently so don't want to invest in the infrastructure, and it does cost a few hundred to do. If you own the land, then you might be more inclined to pay the huge sums to connect to mains electric

I would thoroughly recommend solar lighting though to anyone who is thinking about it, it was brilliant over winter, and we only had to take the 135aH batteries home once for re-charging, that mainly being due to one of the kids leaving the lights on all day by mistake.
