how do you know what the market value of a horse is?
the reason i ask is to insure my horse and what price to insure for
the policies say if anything should happen market value of the horse is paid regardless of how much you have actually insured your horse for
as i bought my horse as a 2 year old she is now 4 her value will have gone up as she now broken and is starting dressage
she is a friesian 16.2hh mare so how much would you all value her at or insure her for

I think you will find that most policies PAY out the market value or the amount insured for whichever is LESS!

looking at the adverts for friesians it would cost me between 6-8000 to replace her
a friend said to me yesterday if someone came along with ten grand and offered it to me for her would i sell to which i said no, i imported her as a rising 2 year old she is now 4 broken and having dressage lessons with an international dressage instructor
to see her go from a head in the air friesian to a balanced on the bit low and rounded horse is amazing after only 4 lessons
so what she gona be like in a years time!!

I valued mine at way less than he's worth IMO (like half his value), although mainly because I cant really afford more than the £100 a month insurance it currently is and I wanted to avoid the need for x-rays. I'd say under-value your horse to be safe and to make sure you're not paying extra for no reason.
