Having fielded several calls from riders today who are desperate to get a run and have just found out that Ascott is cancelled, I pointed them in the direction of the South Oxfordshire Hunt South website - www.sohspc.co.uk and advised that there is an open Pony Club event here at Hambleden using lots of fences from our BE100 & Novice courses, which runs on May 5th (which is now likely to be peak bluebell season!). Clearly most of them had no idea it was on and I wondered what the organisers needed to do in order to promote their event and ensure good entries. It is easy for me as a BE event because I am never short of competitors, but what do other UA events do?

Things like horsedates, PC website, facebook groups...

Not sure actually. Ours is at Blackwater Farm, and got 150 runners (got about 170 entries in total, but refused to run more than 150 because we'll be there til gone 7!), It's on the PC website, horsedates and that's it, I think. It's grown every year though, as people recommend it because the courses are good, we use proper judges and it's very efficient.

Having now missed Munstead, Goring and now Ascott Under Wychwood through cancellations can anyone tell me if Hambleden Pony Club Horse Trials is suitable for a youngster.
I didn't even know Hambleden allowed anybody else to run an event there.

Duckling in here runs a Facebook page about XC events, all with pictures and what not, so making her aware if it will give the event some publicity.

How do Tweseldown, MK etc get their unaffiliated events on BWDP?

Can't think of a better way to attract truck loads of entries!

In South East we have Pegasus Magazine and Local Rider which are good for ads but FB seems to be the best way to attract entries for our RC.

This, get the events on BDWP and also have an online entry ststem if it isn't bdwp

This PC event is always a lovely one to attend, well run and with a good atmosphere

I would say it was extremely suitable for a youngster - some bold fences to jump without all the crowds of people wandering through the bluebells to distract him! In the SJ ring you have all the advantage of space without lots of trade stands to look at, and the fences aren't as "lary" as the ones we use for the BE event. On the Xc course it tends to be the more straightforward fences as opposed to the "feature fences" that are used, so go for it!

Thank you for that great advice. I have entered my youngster for Hambleden Pony Club Horse Trials which is open to anyone and I have also worked out that due to Spring being so late this year I will be going through those woods with the Bluebells all out. How fab is that. Thank you to the forum member that recommended the event which I didn't even know about. For others that don't know it's www.sohspc.co.uk very excited as we have had such few runs so far this year. Lets pray for good weather from now to 5th May.

I've heard it's the most fantastic location and I know it's an open pony club event but I'm not sure if it will be too much for my very ambitious (!) daughter. I'm not that clued up but have been told its pc levels 4 and 5. What does that mean?

It would be perfect for your "very ambitious daughter". The course is always beautiful. They spend alot of time preparing for Hambleden Horse Trials and this Open Pony Club event is there 2 weeks later. The course builder does amazing things!!!

Does anyone know how you can actually reach anyone at BDWP other than the secretaries? I have tried several times and got no response?

Thanks!

You need to just keep trying ther are no phone numbers on their website.

Hambleden ground conditions today were amazing had a great day and then even better found this and managed to book in another run in two weeks time at the same place at www.sohspc.co.uk

The ground conditions were indeed perfect this weekend so would have thought the PC event going on will not only benefit from that but also the fabulous fences!
