woah, thats the first time i have said BS and not BSJA..feels weird!
crazy.gif
well anyhoo, onto the report...

Dragged bugsy and dani to Markfield today aiming to do 85cm and then BN...arrived to book in classes and found out they werent doing the 85cm today, and were starting with the BN...oh b*lls! so, felt a bit nervous
crazy.gif
warming Dani up, as i wanted to do another 85cm before his first BN, but decided to go for it anyway - but i wish i hadnt - i dont think it was the height of fences that was the problem, as he has practised BN height courses at home...i think he was just having an bad day - maybe he was a bit stiff/not 100% sound? i dont know...but he was chipping in during my warm up and whacking the rail off a verticle numerous times (and it was only about 80cm) - he just didnt feel right...i shouldnt of taken him in, but i did (stupid me
mad.gif
)...he popped the first fine, (a verticle) but when it came to the oxers he just didnt feel good atall and was chipping in and throwing himself over them (he didnt stop bless him, honest pony) but he had 2 down, and i retired after fence 6...i just think he may have been a bit stiff and struggled with stretching over the oxers...but they are not machines and have the odd bad day, so not annoyed atall. bless him.

i was feeling a bit rubbish about my riding...so tacked bugsy up and said to my mum ''i'll see what my riding is like warming bugs up, if im being awful with striding etc i wont take him in, as he is so temperamental and i dont want to upset him and send us back down to 65cm when we made it this far..''

well i warmed him up and he was very fresh!!

haha, leaping about at a funny coloured patch on the warmup wall, which clearly was going to eat him...lol, little rears, nothing nasty though. he was really forward and balanced on the flat, popped a few fences, he was FLYING them by miles! and before i picked up canter to go and jump he was bouncing little rears bless
tongue.gif
it was all very exciting! haha, finished on a nice 1m high and pretty wide oxer and went into the arena. he flew round, really confidently, giving everything loads of room, thoroughly enjoying himself
laugh.gif
and we got a clear!
grin.gif
VERY pleased with him, that is my first completed and clear affiliated course on bugsy since his refusal issues. i was patting him for about 10minutes after he finished :P haha.

i didnt go in JO or get a placing as i was HC with bugsy (he has won too much money, but im still taking him in BN's HC for a bit until im ready for disc) but to be frank...i felt so good and confident on bugsy today after the BN, i was pretty much running to the secretary to enter the discovery - but decided in the end not to and leave on a good note...but i think next bsja i go to, if he jumps as well as he has today, i might even enter a discovery (woah, im living on the edge a bit here!!! lol) and to me, after all our problems, if im feeling ready for discoverys again...we must have clicked!!

very pleased with bugsy today, not annoyed atall with dani, they all have off days.

i have a lesson with michael potter on bugsy this wednesday (as its half term) and then will take dani to a hired arena and pop him round an 80cm course and then a BN height...just to check he hasnt lost confidence after todays disaster!) and might go to markfield next weekend with bugs and do BN...and maybe discovery if he goes well! crikey...im getting brave on him now! lol

thanks for reading
laugh.gif
slice of cake and a big mug of hot chocolate for getting this far

xxxx

Well done you, you really have built Bugsy's confidence back up to achieve that, and think you did the right thing leaving on a good note (can imagine how tempting it was though!) It paid off being patient with him
smile.gif

Shame about Dani,
frown.gif
but like you said monitor him and they all do have their bad days.
tongue.gif

At least its left you hungry for your next outing too
cool.gif

Well done with Bugsy all your hard work and effort is paying off.

Shame about Dani, but its always easy to look back and say we shouldnt have done something, you didnt push him to finish the round. Sound like you are doing the right thing by trying him out later in the week.

Have a good lesson.

Well done on finished on a good note - was this the first outing since the snow?

I think there is no shame in dropping down a level when you are not a professional rider and everything has been so difficult lately! (Hence why I was *trying* to do a 90cm amateur)

haha thanks figjam
smile.gif

cotswold - nope, my first outing after the snow was end of jan
smile.gif
and i agree, no shame in dropping down a level, i did it because bugsy had confidence issues last autumn, so had to start from 65cm again as he wouldnt jump 70cm...
oh, and i just read your report
smile.gif
shame it was such a stressful day!! xx

As you have said above-they all have off days, just like us, and I think it's a good idea to hire a course quite soon after today to try and give him confidence after a bad day.

Well done on Bugsy though!! It's such an amazing feeling when you put so much effort and time into these expensive beasts for it to suddenly feel like everyithing is starting to fall into place and feel like it has been worth it.

thanks tinkerbell. yea i agree - might pop to local arena with dani on tuesday if i have time...if not it will have to be friday. but yea, bugsy felt so good, and i am so pleased with him!
laugh.gif
xx

Well done - I might try and go next weekend...

Out of curiosity, which arena do you hire, as I know you aren't hugely far away from me as you go to Markfield so often.

Fantastic news re. Bugsy! Sooo pleased to read that!
smile.gif

Oops about Dani, but never mind, easily mended and you will be back to flying form in no time
smile.gif
Well done.

crazymare - thanks
smile.gif
well i dont as such ''hire'' it out, but Blidworth Equestrian in Blidworth (north of notts..about 15mins away from me) has a clear round thing every friday - you just pay a fiver and you can put the fences to whatever height you like, and go round as many times as you like...its great - and there arena is like, 60 x 60!! its HUUGE
grin.gif
if you do go next weekend, might see you then
smile.gif

KatB - thanks!
laugh.gif
and yea, dani wil be fine - he's not easily upset really...he's a tough cookie
wink.gif
haha xxx
