Can't decide between these two horsebox manufacturers. Previous posters seem to praise Marlborough highly. Prices seem roughly the same.

Has anyone got any experience of either?

Thanks

Well, I have no expereience of Marlborough although I think they have been established for a while. We went to look at some boxes at Alexanders as we were considering downsizing to a 3.5T. However, we are not convinced that a 3.5T has adequate payload for our 2 horses.

Alexanders have only just started doing these boxes and, from what we saw I think there could be room for improvement on certain design aspects to be honest. They are smart enough little boxes - although we didn't look at brand new, we were looking at the new conversions but on the older vans.

If you're near then it's probably worth having a look as it's always good to see them in the flesh as it were. I thought Marlborough was one end of the country though and Alexanders the other?

Thanks for your info.

I'm actually in Scotland, but due to the lack of manufacturers up here, I'm having to look at the north of England - Alexanders are in Yorkshire and Marlborough are in Lancashire. There seems to be a lot of praise on many forums for Marlborough's.

I show small M & Ms, so even allowing for tack etc, 3.5t is probably going to be okay, as I'm looking to downsize from my current 6.5t.

Ah right, then that makes more sense! I had a feeling they were based down south!

Alex is personable enough, we went to the showroom at Boroughbridge but I think he also has one at York and that's where most of the horseboxes are as he only had about 4 to look at in Boroughbridge and none of them were the ones that are advertised (sooo much!) on various websites.

3.5T is def fine for smaller horses - we just have two 16hh and a bit ones and I think this is pushing it although they would fit fine they would be over weight wise.

I actually also like the look of the ones this guy has for sale

I don't know what your budget is but I found that the Equitrek Sonic wasn't actually that much more expensive and I prefer the way their top doors open. The upwards opening ones seem a little awkward to close as you have to have a piece of rope attached to it to get it back down!

I like the look of the first one (not in pale yellow tho!!). May give them a call too. Not too keen on Equitrek - lovely looking boxes, but two people I know have bought from them recently (one a box, one a trailer), and the build quality has not been as you would expect for a £26,000 box! The box owner said she does like the lorry, but wouldn't necessarily rush out to buy another in the future.

Budget c. £17,000 max. Also need to keep fairly north, as would like them to deliver!

Well, I will warn you with Alexanders then, He reckoned he was so busy that the cheapest one he was offeirng was at £16,950 I think but that was plus VAT.

I love the pale yellow one! hehe

My company Northern Horseboxes is based in Darlington so are a bit closer to Scotland. We build the 3.5t Renault Master horseboxes.

Ironically the guy who builds the Alexanders ones used to build ours but we weren't happy with the quality he was giving us so we now build them in house.

We will build to your requirements, no problem with delivery or even meeting you somewhere to let you see one of our models. Prices start at £12,000 including VAT.

Give us a call on 01325 460500 or 07793 973041
