I read something on another thread about giving marmite to horses & it keeping flies away. I can’t find that post now so I’d just like to know how much & how often please?

And why does it work…..

I give my gelding marmite because the flies were HORRENDOUS on him. never seen bits on a horse so bad. Started giving him marmite and within a few days there weren't any new bites and the old ones had started to clear up. A week or so later..all the bites had gone and now he's right as rain :)

The marmite effect is the same as you get from feeding Brewers Yeast - buy a whole sack from Charnwood Milling. Feed a tablespoonful a day and not only does it keep flies away, it also improves coat, hooves and digestion. 2 tablespoon fulls a day and its an amazing calmer too.

One sack will last 4 horses a year fed at these rates. Waaaaaay cheaper than Marmite and waywaywaaaaay cheaper than buying Yeast from the main feed manufacturers !

All my horses love Marmite, but the cat is the worst, he'll try to steal marmite on toast right off the plate and has been known to get in the dishwasher (not while it's on ;) ) to lick the marmitey knife!

Tuscanbunnygirl - how much do you give him & how often?

I feed a teaspoon every night :) xx

I've heard this and would love to switch over to brewers yeast as I have to come to England to get marmite and because I live in Itally and don't speak Italian :o I'm not quiiiite sure it'd be brewers yeast I'd end up with.. :) xx

Mine get carrot or apple sticks dipped in marmite as a treat and they love it. Well, one doesn't. She hates marmite and threatens to move to Denmark where its banned.
