I know this isn't horse related but read this in Mail on Sunday, it's about a woman married to a man married to 12 other wives with currently 100 children??? WTF is that all about, i read this and it made me cringe? I can't believe people live like this in this day and age and seem to get away with it in some states in the US? How? I am no prude either!

hello again, I have no idea how anyone can allow this to go on now days. I'm speechless about it really, you'd get locked up and the key thrown away here. Bloody shocked me you just don't think it goes on. Very sad that her daughter has gone back to the cult too!

Provided they can support themselves financially, I don't care how many wives or children he has.

As soon as he can't and expects the rest of us (i.e. the taxpayers) to fund his inability to keep his trousers up, I would lop off the offending member with a pair of rusty shears and sell the children for medical research.

Dunno, Liz Taylor seems to have got away with it, but yes I do see your point, I hate double standards on any front, I get pissed off with the age thing, if an older bloke is with a younger woman he is called a perv and she is classed as "old enough to be his daughter", that is unless he is rich and famous then she is "old enough to be his wife", Rod Stewart Pavorotti, ect ect
 
I think this is because he is married to them all at the same time! And sleeping with them all at the same time as all their kids are being born within days of each other. All a bit sick and yes he is still at it apparently and the woman in the story was far from happy but at least she is now. I know hugh hefner has three at once and I've watched their show and they are all blissfully happy (what man wouldn't be to be far)n this story is depraved in a very different way. Not sure hguh actually has any children??
 
What about STD's? He's obviously not using protection. If he gets HIV/clamidya/herpes/syphilus (although how would he have time for extra marital affairs

) imagine the consequences................. I suppose some of his wives might have affairs while waiting to be 'serviced' - whats good for the goose and all that

I think it's completely grim but is the problem the marriages? I mean would it be better if he was married once and had affairs? I'm NOT defending the sect, I'm just saying they have different social standards. What REALLY offends me is the lack of free choice for the women and the involvement of young girls. I don't honestly see the problem if consenting adults want to get involved with something like that by choice (although not my scene!) so long as they can sustain it but that's not what we're talking about with these folks.

Completly agree- this poor woman diddnt want to live that life which is why her story is so sad.But for someone who DID want to live that way I dont see any issue.
 
As Cruiser said they are a break away sect of the Mormon church. The men are prosecuted if caught but catching them and proving the case is difficult because the cult is very closed without much contact with the outside world. Most of them are caught when they don't support all their wives and the women apply for public assistance or when someone complains about sex with an underage girl and the child welfare laws come into play.
