Hi all,

I need running martingale to hack my horse out in. I bought the full size from Shires but it is too small for him- sure I can get it on him but it isnt a correct fit if you know what I mean. I am struggling to find an extra full size- does anyone know a particular make that comes up big?! Dont want to spend a fortune as will only use it out hacking.

thanks xx

If the neckstrap is too small use a spur strap or a cut down piece of a bridle, anything with a buckle that fits basically, as an extender.

We bought one with adjustable bits on either side of the neck, rather than just the loop that goes round the neck. We bought it from the saddler that repairs our tack, and she said that if it was still too small she would make one to measure for us - so ask where you get your saddles restuffed..

I'll have to have a word with her, but my friend has a huge breast plate with martingale attachment she got off ebay that's too big for her huge Clydie - sure she would be up for selling it if you were interested?

I've got a rather nice XL leather breastplate that fits my 17.2hh no bother. It's Kincade so cheap as chips but actually nice quality. I paid £19.99 on Equestrian Clearance. I tried loads on my lad before I found one that wasn't throttling him :)

Thanks folks.

Neckstrap is okay its the pieces which attach to reins- too short!

The XL Kincade bridle is the only noseband I can find that actually fits him so far and actually I was quite impressed with its quality too. Have ended up ordering a dirt cheap one I found in the sale (god knows what it will be like but worth a try) if not I will search again for a kincade one, just havent had any luck so far!

I bought a full size kincade running martingale from the derby house website the other day for my TB mare and its huge! it was £13.50 so cheap and cheerful but does the job! My TB has the longest neck ever that makes her look giraffe like and ive had to put all straps to the smallest they gi and its still big! Should have bought cob size but will have to punch extra holes all over it when I get the time!

So just add a loop around the girth.
