Martingale questions

good point re cheltenham gag.

That part of the question is for my friend though, I don't use a gag on my horse. She has a pony that varies from sticking his head down and tanking off to putting his head vertically in the air and leaping up and down on the spot. He is great fun LOL

I have never had a problem with a running maringale with a gag but used to succesfully jump a mare in a german hackamore and always used a standing martingale as the hackamore is enough pressure on the nose without the aid of a running martingale adding to it.

Ahh the old logical argument! I had the same conversation with my uncle as to why I had a Cheltenham gag and running martingale on my TB. The answer is because it worked! I dont know why.

Interesting.

Except I don't know the difference between a german and english hackamore. I have an English hackamore and I don't know where I would fit a standing martingale? Can I use a noseband as well?

(southwestwhippet hangs head in shame at ignorance)

An english hackamore usually has a shorter, thicker 'lever' on it. The german versions are usually much finer...looking moe like wire.

I've never seen a standing martingale used with one though so can't help with how you do it
