martingale stops

It stops the rings running up and possible getting caught in the bit not that I use one but I think that is the thinking behind them.

So do you mean rein stops (as per TheDD's reply) which don't apply to standing martingales anyway, or martingale stops (as in the round ones that hold the martingale part to the neck strap?

If the round rubber martingale stops weren't there, the neck part could run all the way up the straps of the martingale to the rings and perhaps even go over the horses head, dangerous in a fall perhaps..?

Thanks for the question and your time. Am using a running as a running and also improvising a running as a standard in both cases have been critisized for not using "stops". Can now understand that rein stops should apply to running and ring stop on standing. Thanks again

i have heard of a pony getting the martingale ring stuck on it`s tooth so you want them kept away from the bit and mouth.

I have two sets on my reins, one to stop rings going down to bit and getting stuck on buckles or billets, one to stop rings coming back to my hand and getting caught on the rubber.
