Even me hardened as i am, cannot believe that such a tragedy has occured. i thought that instead of looking at todays images perhaps we could remember a great partnership in happier times. RIP Cavvy, Mary we are all thinking of you and all the connections tonight, lets not forget Vicky Brake amongst them, she willl be heartbroken and here is a recent image from Pau i hope you will all like x

Thankyou for the photo , it is beautiful .
I think anyone in that stadium today had there fingers crossed for a different outcome

RIP Cavvy , you beautiful talented horse

Not how did he die, but how did he live?
Not what did he gain, but what did he give?
These are the units to measure the worth

To bring back a smile, to banish a tear?
Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say,
But how many were sorry when he passed away.

Thats a nicer way to remember him, thanks for posting this photo. Found looking at the other photos almost intrusive and a little morbid. He was a very handsome boy! x

Fitting, indeed.

Always look forwards......

my deepest sympathy for all conections.

i'm sure they are all devestated.

So so sad, I can't believe it

How on earth did this happen

You should send Mary that photo Lu, it is absolutely beautiful, they both look so happy and relaxed in the sunshine.

Poor Cavvy, I was hoping for a better outcome, but have just got back from the stadium and logged on and am devastated that it came to this. All our thoughts are with Mary now, RIP Call Again Cavalier xx

A beautiful picture Lu, I am sure you could make up a montage of pics from your photo library for us...

A truly sad ending to a wonderful partnership.

Hugs and thoughts to ALL connected.xxxx

R.I.P Cavvy.
My cousin knows the owners, and was devastated to hear of this tragedy.
Apsolute Stupid idea of express eventing! Leave eventing alone, dont fix something unless its broken!
Deepest sympathies to Mary and everyone connected with cavvy!

Such a fantastic partnership with such trust between them. I remember them competing at Barbury Castle a few years back, here are the photos I took of them, it was a beautiful day.

lovely pics. thankyou.
i looked at the others and tbh he is standing there calmly, the adrenalin would probably have meant that he wasn't in pain.
(i found a friend's horse in the field years ago with a broken back leg and it happily stood there munching hay while i rang the vet etc. i looked into its eyes and they showed no distress or worry at all.) it is very easy to anthropomorphise horses too much, especially in such a situation.
RIP wonderful Cavvy.

Of course you are right, Kerilli. Thank you for that. It does make an unbareable situation seem a little less terrible when you think of it like that.
Feeling very, very sad to all concerned.

thoughts with mary at this terrible time x x
my son is so upset he loved cavvy to bits always went to say hello when we went eventing.so so sad x x

this has reminded me so much of the loss of Theodore O'Connor, and this poem, so apt for him, fits Cavvy too:

I'll lend you for a little while my grandest foal, HE said.
For you to love while he's alive and mourn when he is dead.
It may be one or twenty years, or days or months, you see,
But will you, till I take him back, take care of him for me?

He'll bring his charms to gladden you, and should his stay be brief,
You'll have treasured memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught on earth I want this foal to learn.
I've looked the wide world over In my search for teachers true.
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes, with trust, I've chosen you.
Now will you give him total love? not think the labour vain,
nor hate me when I come here to take him back again?
I know you'll give him tenderness and love will bloom each day,
And for the happiness you've known, forever grateful stay
But should I come and call for him much sooner than you'd planned,
You'll brave the bitter grief that comes, and someday, understand.

right. that's it. now i'm crying. sorry everyone.

Does anyone know if it would be possible for us to organise some flowers or something for Mary from the forum? I guess we would need to know her address. I have always loved watching her ride and it is so tragic that this has happened.

Beautiful picture, thanks Lucretia. I'd love to show you mine, but they are at my OH's, unfortunately. Poor Mary, I can't believe she's going home without him...my thoughts are with her and the owners.

Cavvy, you were an amazing horse who gave us a lot of wonderful memories. Thank you xxx
