For those who weren't able to watch it, here is Austin's winning showjumping round, including that nail-biting flyer at the water tray. Fabulous to see his reaction after his round - he didn't even know he'd won at that point but he was clearly over the moon!

And his winning interview "People like me, we're not supposed to win 5*s but hey it's just happened I think!"

I’ve really liked Colorado Blue for ages. Great to see him win a 5*, he’s been up there for a while and deserves it. I’m a sucker for a nice Irish horse though.

He was born in Ireland, but he doesnt carry any Irish lines! He's beautifully bred to be an event horse though- his dam was Miners Lamp/ Shaab and has produced 2 other top level event horses.

Also the grandsire on the dam's side is Rock King who is also the grandsire of Ros Canter's top rides, Lordships Graffalo and Pencos Crown Jewel.

Also, how brilliant were those ex-racers? Phelps was the xc round of the day for me, but all 3 demonstrated thoroughbreds at their brilliant best. We must not lose that in our breeding, and well done to Ian for building a course that really rewarded the true xc horses.

I watched Le Lion this weekend too and was quite saddened- almost everyone is riding a showjumper now, and it really shows on the xc. The winner of the 7yr olds is another exceptional AA mare though with an incredible damline so there is hope!

How strange. All they’ve been going on about on social media is how it’s x years since an Irish horse won a 5*! So they’re stretching the truth!

Actually what was said on social media is that it is 58 years since an Irish RIDER won an eventing 5*! (Or at least that's what I've seen and heard anyway, and was said in the commentary on the livefeed).

What a great round, no pulling horse about and all done in a good rhythm, so nice to see

Poppa Funnels Facebook post pays tribute to her old friend WFP and also congratulates Austin but no mention of the third place and a cropped picture of the podium just showing the first and second places. 🤔

I saw that. While I’m not particularly an OT fan, I thought that was a little low of Pippa. Obviously she was congratulating her old friend overall, but if you’re mentioning the other podium winner I’d have thought a slight nod to OT would have been the most dignified thing to do.

Well, he was jumping his little socks off round the show jumping. Great win for Austin. Less pressure I suppose if you go in as 4th, but the jumps are there to be cleared and he did it well.

Great result.

Finally caught up with it on H&C online. So pleased for Austin.

Agreed, I'm not sure I'd send a hypothetical event horse of mine to OT but I'm not sure he always deserves the social media attention he gets either?

I'd get it a bit if PF was on a one woman crusade to clean up what she thought was poor judgement or horsemanship. But, if that is the case, why not post about every example you see?

I still think if OT had pulled up at the end with a lame horse at Badminton after jumping a questionable XC round in places, he'd be crucified. It seems when it's another rider, it's brushed under the carpet and no-one speaks a word of it.

I've no real skin in the game but it's certainly interesting sideline watching.
