Have you tried juicing her favourite fruits / veggies and gradually diluting them? You'd be surprised how much juice you get from some really fresh broccoli.
Could there be something hormonal going on AA? Just thinking about how PPID makes them drink a lot... could she have an under-active pituitary gland or something? I don't even know if that might be a thing. It just seems very odd. Very stressful and difficult for you.
I don't think so and certainly hope not, and her vet would be raising it if there were any thoughts of it as she sees the horse weekly. She is 15 so possibly a cushing test is nearing. Even has a young horse she hasn't been a reliable drinker unless she had worked hard enough to sweat. She has been off work injured since May and had colic twice. She is mega sensitive to grass and gets gassy very easily, but the second colic was impaction and she was very dry. Sadly she is an utter pig with food and simply eats as fast as she can until its all gone, there is no off switch or moving over to drink or rest etc. There is no doubt she would eat herself to death.
So after all that stress I developed a system of feeding very little and very often with last visit at 10.30pm. She is never allowed to be stuffed full and so far so good, she is healthy, looks good and is full of herself. She is turned out in 2 hour sessions on a track system and her hay is 4kg a portion. Her kitchen is well stocked now, using many of the ideas on this thread, and this evening half a kilo of Saracen Re-leve in 2 gallons of warm water went down the hatch nicely. She has a choice of plain tap water, rain water and water taken from the field trough, well soaked hay and a bucket of sugarbeet juice. She has more choice on her menu than most restaurants and one way or another I will get her back as my safe, old ladies hack, although I think getting a horse to the start at Cheltenham might be cheaper than keeping her happy !
