My horse only gets mash as he can't have haylage or hay (diastema) I'm feeding him veteran vitality. He's in good condition but is getting really 'naughty' to ride which isn't like him at all he's usually laid back and easy going. It's 100% all the goodness in his feed as. Just wondering if there's a mash that keeps the weight on without the explosion 😂

I put mine on Spillers Senior Super-Mash following a tooth extraction and it suited him and my EMS pony so well I’ve left them on it. Low sugar, starch, very palatable and not in the slightest bit heating. It smells of apples when soaked which makes it very appetising.

My elderly shettie thrives on spillers senior super mash as he can’t eat hay. Vet says he looks amazing , you could add a glug of veg oil if you wanted more calories and no fizz

As a forage replacer I used to use Simple Systems Haycare for my oldie. I used to add a bit of mint as he didn’t love it but it did mean that he ate it more slowly overnight like he would hay. It’s very low in sugar.

Also did a smaller trug of Pure Feeds Meadow mash which was guzzled. As a bucket feed I fed Saracen Releve Cubes soaked. For extra condition I added Equijewel and/ or micronised linseed.

Allen & Page Soothe & Gain, won't act as a forage replacement but a good non-heating mash when soaked. I always add more water than they suggest on the bag, so it's a proper mash.

Omega rice is fab, it’s micronised linseed and rice bran, it’s a feed topper so you add to existing feed. High calories but non heating. It’s helped my TB put on weight

Omega rice really helped a poorly horse of mine. There’s an Allen and Page one which can out last year which is a mash. It’s designed for veterans. Can remember the name but a purple bag I think.
