Hi

Well think the big hairy might be a photic headshaker, have tried Equilibrium nose net (helps but doesn't cure, wears spring/summer), tried Vapour rub (no major help), tried Naf Shake Relief (thought it was working but then was really bad again last week).

What I have noticed is when the sun is out and bright he is much worse, especially at weekends when I ride later (compared to early this morning when I rode in light cloud and had lovely non head shaking ride!).

So am thinking that he may be a photic headshaker and vaguely remember someone talking on here about a UV blocking mask that you can ride in?

Anyone know who makes it and if they work?

Thanks, it's getting to the point when I want winter back so can go out with no headshaking and on soft ground!:D

Equilibrium also do a net relief riding mask with ears - it doesn't say to what extent it screens out bright light but may be worth a go?

Hi

Thanks, have had a look at the Equilibrium one, but it is meant for flies more than sun really (although may give it a go if can't find any others).

Also had a look at that thread before thanks anyway though.

Anyone else know of one, think there is one out there that looks like big bug eyes but don't know who makes it.

Thanks :)

Well I have found 3 that might do the job:

http://www.equilibriumproducts.com/fly_protection/net_reliefreg_riding_mask/

http://www.horsemask.com/products.html

http://www.charliesproducts.co.uk/cashel-fly-masks/12-crusader-quiet-ride-mask.html

The middle one appears to give the most protection from UV, but has anyone used any of them?

Think I might try the Cashel one, although my concern is the nose section doesn't look as good as his current equilibrium net and don't really want to double up!

God we are going to look perfectly ridiculous, what with a full facial armour, hi viz to shame blackpool, wonky rubbed mane and wee stained knees (him not me!) :D

Hi,
Appreciate this is an old post but if your friend gets a vets letter and approaches the relevant body (British dressage, British Show Jumping etc) then they will give them special dispensation to compete wearing a mask. I get asked this occasionally so I went out of my way to find out, straight from the horses mouth so to speak. There's a post about it on my facebook page

Sorry I'm not tech savvy enough to point you to the actual post.

You were thinking of the Guardian mask with bug eyes

I think that is what a friend of mine had. Her pony had photic epilepsy and even had to wear it at night if there was a good moon. It worked well even if it did make him look like something out of The Fly.
