Hello,

Apologies if this has been asked before, I'm new!

Please could someone explain the difference between Equine Massage Therapy & Equine Physiotherapy? I'm confused as I assumed they were the same as you are massaging the muscles both superficial & deep.

Thank you in advance for any feedback x

Theres a huge difference between the two a EMT has been trained to massage horses .
An fully trained EPT will have trained as a human physio then depending on where they have trained will have done a further three years training to become an horse physio ( think all the course do dogs and cats to not sure.
EPT can massage , use ultrasound lasers and a big range of other therapeutic there's a big difference between the two

In general i would think massage is hands on or using u/s machinery/equipment to manipulate
& physio- physical excercise like carrot stretches/ ridden&lungeing excercises
my horse has been having a physio out and she does the above.

Massage is part of physio but physio is more than 'just' massage and physios have to undergo a lot more training in additional areas. You'll quite often get a physio and a massage therapist working together and once the physio has worked out a plan of treatment the patient will then be seen by the massage therapist for the massage parts of the treatment.
