Just been on a local pet 'sell and seek' group and found this...

'lurcher stud dog wanted in the next week for a friend whippet x bedlington rough haired bitch?' And if that wasn't bad enough, someone replied '1/2 grey x 1/2 German wire haired pointer any good?'

I mean really?! I know it's not that bad but are people seriously that desperate to make money and cute ickle puppy dogs out of their obviously super cute family pets?! I have seen worse on there and from posts on here but people really need to grow some brains and at least if you are going to breed a litter do it b****y properly

Rant over

I'm sorry, I can't reply properly to this thread, because everything I've tried writing so far, sounds too sarcastic and involves words like Caesarean section, prepared to pay for veterinarian, and the signs of a fussy potential stud dog owner are, educate yourself before you breed...

I decided to stop trying to write something sensible, while my computer was still in one piece...

*sigh*

I wanted to reply on the actual post on FB something similar to that FL, but I managed to stop myself. It gets even worse though, someone else replied offering a 'Grey x collie x bull / saluki x grey 3 years old'... I mean really?!:(

now i dont agree with breeding ANYTHING in the current climate.

but what is wrong with the above dog in your mind?

That's basically my point, there's too many dogs in rescues or having to be pts or rehomed etc etc. It's just more litters of crossbreed crossed with crossbreed for seemingly no other reason than they'd be cute and they could make some money, it's not helping the situation plus its not fair on the dogs. I'm all for breeding to lined up homes with proper health testing and doing it properly etc etc but the fact that they're just breeding for the sake of breeding is why it pee'd me off!

If it was to be a hunting dog they would know a stud or what they want as a stud.
This is just to get puppies and they don't care what.

Last time I read something about it, there was some Swedish hunting kennels (hobby breeders, by the way) who offered a hunting guarantee on their puppies = if you can't turn your puppy into a, for example, elk hunting dog, you will at least get a certain amount of your money back.
However they would never dare to do that, if they didn't breed from x number of generations of proven good hunting dogs.

So if this person/persons are breeding or aiming to breed top quality hare coursing Lurchers or whatever other type of hunting Lurchers do, then they shouldn't be looking for just any Lurcher.

And I can't resist mentioning the size difference, between a presumably slender WhippetxBedlington Terrier cross and the so far two potential stud dogs...

:(

I've currently (fingers crossed) got a jrt in pup to my other jrt. got homes for 5 pups.
I just don't quite understand deliberatly breeding cross breeds for the sake of it.

i am not a fan of pedigrees but a jrt is not a purebreed so therefore is a crossbreed it is the same as a lurcher as in it is a type

A JRT should have a pedigree - maybe not registered but the ancestry should be known. Admittedly most jack russels on sale are just small terrier mutts.

I do know that there is quite a few Jack Russell Terriers that isn't registered, and where the breeders themselves keeps track on their dogs pedigrees, but I was convinced that I had seen them as purebred also, so I looked at SKK's website and since 2001 the SKK have registered both Jack Russell Terriers and Parson Russell Terrier as purebred dogs, as it says on SKK's website, because they became internationally recognised = FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale) recognised.

However, I simply presumed that it was Jack Russell Terrier from Great Britain, but when I scrolled down on the FCI's website to the Jack Russell Terrier, and chose to view the breed standard in English, I became a little confused because it comes up as an Australian breed? FCI website

Is there a difference between the recognised Jack Russell Terrier from Australia and the "original" unregistered Jack Russell Terriers (from Great Britain) that has been quite frequently occurring in Swedish horse stables since many years?
