Was at a works do tonight (just about to start on Pimms) when OH rung to say that Oscar had been kicked. He said that a lady on the yard had looked at it and recommended the vet came out. Then I heard the words 'there's lots of clear fluid coming out' and I nearly threw up.

Rushed down to the yard and the poor thing was not happy - he managed to put weight on it but when the vet came out he said that his hock could be infected.

Chocolate Log (being the star that she is) whizzed straight around with the horse box and we took him straight to liphook.

Xrays show no bone damage but the joint is badly infected (even though we caught it early). The boy is now in surgery and we've just got home, so I'll be waiting by the phone now.

Please can Oscar have massive hugs and healing vibes - I really can't lose him now x

Try not to worry, they will flush the joint capsule and give him strong antibio's and he should be home in a couple of days

We had the same happen here a few weeks ago and he is now hacking out and schooling. Time is the essence when it comes to joint capsules and you acted very quickly. Vibes for Oscar ... Pimms for you x

Thanks Llwyncwn - the surgeon was very optimistic. I didn't realise how dangreous GA is for horses though!

FL - I'm not sure - tiny little dot on my foot and OH didn't believe it would blow up....and it has. I was hobbling around in flip flops around liphook and they were lovely. One nurse asked if I wanted them to sort me out too.

There is one strangely funny thing about tonight. The whole time Oscar was sedated he had a stonking woodie - and smacked the vet in the face with it....OH burst out laughing....

((((healing vibes)))) just come back from Liphook last night with my mare after 5 days away, Liphook is a very nice place for any horse to go to. He will have 5 star room service, x

Lots of vibes you poor thing, my friends mare went there for the same op she was 22 at the time and is still enjoying a very full life 3 years later. I know what you mean about hearing " there is clear fluid coming out " been through it with an old horse of mine and is fine now. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Oh no HUGE vibes for Oscar. Any news this morning?
Hehehe about the woodie, bless him - good job he won't know otherwise he could be very embaressed. :-)
Hope your foot is ok too!

Fingers crossed for Oscar and a speedy recovery! It was a good job that C_L was around to box him and take him to Liphook!! Good job you caught it all early
