I've just bought my first horsebox (terribly over-excited!) and this morning I've been ringing round for insurance quotes. I'm really surprised by the variation between the different companies.

I'm 22 and the box is a 2.5L diesel ford transit.

KBIS £350 fully comp for me and anyone over 25yrs
SEIB £521 fully comp with me as the only driver
Shearwater said they couldn't quote anywhere near KBIS or SEIB
NFU said they wouldn't insure me :o

Is it usual for quote to vary so much or is it because they're all assessing my risk as a young driver?

Your variation isnt as big as mine was...i just bought a 2.5l diesel ldv, im 24 and wanted to be the only insured driver. SEIB, NFU, KBIS and one other all quoted me between £600 and just over £700  My last option before thinking running the horsebox wasnt going to be quite as cheap as i thought were anthony d evans...i pay £328 with them. I'm not quite sure why there was such a massive difference in the quotes but they were my saviours!

Thanks for the recommendations. Just tried Anthony Evans and it was £2 cheaper than KBIS so hardly anything in it. Decisions decisions.
