I've received my FieldMasta rug and figured I would post a review as there are none around yet.
Here is my initial review of it : it's light, very warm and cosy looking, the outer looks solid and quality. It most definitely looks to be properly waterproof. The texture reminds of high end trekking gear.
The chest hooks are much stronger than on most other brands and better profiled to not dig in, being solid flat triangles, and all the attachments simple enough not to be an irritant to clip on or off, but very well made, strong and resistant-looking to tearing. The accordion neck piece is much lighter on top (only thin but strong fabric) and there appears to be indeed little to no pressure on the withers. It gathers nicely around the poll without pressure to create extra warmth in the whole body, and moves freely with the neck.
It has good room on the shoulders and is true to size.
It comes with removable leg straps, with more ordinary breakable hooks in case the horse gets trapped I presume. Those are the hooks normally found on the chest straps, that keep popping off under shoulder pressure, but they're by no means flimsy.
There is no velcro anywhere other than to attach the neck piece to itself (and those are covered by a flap) and nothing to get turned in, bunched up or generally scratching or pinching the horse in tender places after a few weeks use.
After a week's use, while it might go slightly sideways after rolling sometimes (I don't use leg straps and it's new and slippy still), it hasn't shown any evidence of moving backwards and stays in place very nicely indeed, which is not a given with most rugs, particularly the ones with shoulder vents.
It claims to give the coat extra shine and it appears to do exactly just that.
A nice little bonus is a label on the inside where you can write your details and even the name of the horse in case the horse gets loose.
I was long trying to find a negative, all I can think of is that it doesn't come with a dedicated tail strap 😁
5*/5, best rug I've ever handled, and I've seen lots, working with horses in several disciplines, from ultra cheap to ultra expensive. At around £110 it's in fact amazingly good value ; I probably won't need an underrug the whole winter and it's lighter than all stable rugs I've seen too. Somebody somewhere who actually knows rug design AND measured horses properly designed this thing. It's a nice change.
I highly recommend.
Back in a month to report on mane loss or lack thereof, though it's not my personal priority. I would assume that if they lose their mane with this rug, there's just no hope for any of the others either!
