I recently purchased a field Masta rug & the neck leaks,it’s leaking on the domed non-mane rubbing neck area, has anyone else had these issues with this rug?

I have. They asked me to send it back for "testing" but I just couldn't be bothered with the faff so is now a "light showers only" rug. Which is a pain.

I've had this rug for 3yrs and never had any issues. I love this rug over any brand I've had before, even super expensive Rambo.

I put it back on the other day and it's now too small- it was last worn in February and horse is 8 so shouldn't still be growing! I'm actually gutted that I'll need to sell it and am eyeballing the new one in a size up.

Glad it’s not just mine, they keep expressing their surprise about it leaking! But the domed area is so thin I don’t see how it couldn’t not leak... Mainly bought it to just use on a grey horse to keep it clean when needed so I’ll hang on to it but a bit peed off as it wasn’t exactly a cheap rug!

Hmm, I actually really like the rug & I’m extremely fussy with rugs & generally only use bucas or Rambo but unfortunately those makes don’t fit my current horse particularly well. Out of the approximately 10 times I’ve used it there s been rain on 5 of those days & the ruched area has leaked. One day it leaked after only 2 hour of rain.

My horse is quite a hot horse and I have the 200gm version of this rug. He only wears it in the worst of our scottish weather.

Hes had it on through storms, torrential rain and blizzards (turned out in all weathers ha ha) and i can honestly say that it has never let in any water.

It also doesnt rub mane at all which is my favourite feature.

It's not like me to be lucky!

One of my fellow liveries had the same problem with the same rug. It was almost new, and the whole horse was soaked and shivering. Rain had been very heavy that day, but all the same. It wasn't just the domed bit and it wasn't just the seams, the whole rug was sopping wet inside and out.

The not rubbing mane thing was the reason I bought it after last winters Weatherbeeta neck cover absolutely trashed my mares mane! She’s had it on during several long days of constant rain & the majority of the rug is fine, she’s nice & warm but damp patches on neck. Guess I’m stuck with it as can’t really sell it on knowing it’s leaking, I’ll try some spray on proofing stuff on the neck I think. I suppose if I’d carried on with a standard neck rug she’d be wet as well as filthy??? at least with this she’s clean but with a slightly damp neck some days!

Mine has literally been used a handful of times, luckily it does only seem to be the neck on the thin area where it’s literally 2 layers that leaks. Such a shame as I’d read a lot of good reviews of these rugs.

I've never got on with Masta's, had a few but they've never lasted very long so I wouldn't buy one again.
I never had much time for them before this but with a grey horse that got its mane wrecked last year I decided to give one a try but won’t buy one again. And they’re sending me another one of the sodding things??? I’d rather have had my money back!

I was just about to buy a new one in the size up but you have me worried now.

Mine is a few years old and was the original one. The newer ones have been updated so I'm wondering if that's when the issues started.

Does anyone know how to shrink a horse or at the very least stop an 8yr old continuing to grow?! Ha ha

Posted too early!
I’m wondering if it’s the newer ones that are no good as I looked into them a lot before buying & didn’t find any bad reviews.
Also on Harry hall/Masta website there’s barely any stock which suggests to me that perhaps they’re not making them anymore.
Also a thread popped up on the Harry Hall Facebook thing all about leaky necked fieldmasta rugs..
Mine’s weird as it’s leaked a few times when it’s rained all day, then another day it rained all day & it was fine, then another time it leaked after just 2 hours of rain.
They suggested perhaps rain was blowing down the neck, which was unlikely as it was perfectly dry at the top then wet at base of neck? or that horse was too hot which seemed equally unlikely that a freshly fully clipped horse was too hot in a 100g rug on a cold, windy, rainy day!

Mine is also leaking on the neck x2 rugs. Messaged about it and they are acting surprised asking me to take a million pictures.
Thought it was just me but guess not. Ive bought a few of these now and these latest ones are the only ones that have leaked. ?

I’m so glad I read this!
My little pony has a Masta because it was the only thing I could find at the time his size and my requirements. I love it and it’s lasted so well. It’s a climate masta.
Off the back of that one I’d been looking at the field masta for my other horse who’s mane gets rubbed. Don’t think I’ll bother ?

I took the new one out of my basket and have been squeezing pony into his existing one.

Apart from a soggy bottom (!) its held up with all the rain we've had.

Really disappointing that the new ones arent of the same.standard as I'd really like his butt to stay dry*.

* he has plenty of other rugs that do fit but I just really like this one

I’ve bought 5 Fieldmasta rugs as I have 2 horses. Sold a couple as outgrown and got the bigger size. Ive not had a problem with leaking till this newer rug that I bought in October.

His is only wet because hes outgrown it! The actual rug has been perfect but it's an older rug from.when they were first released.

I was going to buy a new one in a bigger size but this thread has put me off!

Interested by this thread, I bought one of these rugs for my girl in the autumn from Harry Hall and have been really pleased with it until Saturday. When she came in very wet I thought it felt a bit damp under the base of the neck/shoulders. I was surprised as it hadn't happened before and we've had plenty of rain, so I slightly thought maybe I had imagined it, now I think I probably hadn't. I will be keeping a careful watch now and lookin at the forecast it won't be long until I can see if we have a problem!!

All my turnout rugs have leaked at one time or another. You are recommended to brush clean and re-proof them each year, especially around the seams. The material is not magical against the abrasive dirt being rolled into it each day and the elements. Detachable hoods are the worst personally, as the wind/rain still manages to get under and then leak down, although a few makes now have extended the flap over the wither area. I haven't tried one yet as prefer to stay away. I am now using one of the Drake Equestrian combo rugs and so far so good but its a 250g fill and from April will be getting too warm to wear. Perfect for now. Anyway, I like to buy a new rug each year, who doesn't?
