As per the subject title really - thinking about getting a couple of lightweight turnouts and the Masta Zing ones are quite cheap...how big do they come up and are they any good for horses with deep shoulders?? Thankyou

sizing wise they do come up wide IME. BUT I would rather go spend the money on a cheaper weatherbeeta. Mastas IME leak (big time!) , tear, and are generally a waste of money.

I 2nd the Weatherbeata ... although I do have some Masta's

The WB ones are camparible price wise and so very well made

EDT if you buy the WB 'Freestyle' type, which they do in most of their range, then you have the shaped shoulders that give that extra bit of room ..

yes, they're good value for money, and the stable rugs and fleces etc are great, it's just the turnout rugs aren't all that good.

I like the weatherbeeta landa ones, they seem to fit the broader horse and you can get a decent one off www.equestrianclearance.co.uk for about £40.

I have always used Mastas on my welsh cobs. IME they have never slipped, always fit well and I have never had one that leaked.

Having said that, I recently went to buy a turnout without a filling in a rush, and the tackshop didn't have any Mastas in my size. Didn't have time to go anywhere else so got a Weatherbeeta Landa, which fits equally as well as a Masta, again, it doesn't slip, and is totally waterproof.

Agree. I used to use them (am a Rambo addict now

) but they were always good, and yes, good for large shouldered horses like one of my girls is

I've had a Masta turn out on my 3yo WB colt all winter and it hasn't leaked, ripped or slipped... It was only £65 so if it starts leaking next year it has still paid for it self!!

My mare is quite prominent on the shoulder & I now would not use anything other than a Rhino Wug.

Mine cost just under £70 in the sale (I think) & that was medium weight. Never had any probs with it & she is a yob when it comes to rugs. Never slips, doesn't rub, keeps her warm & toasty & stands up to multiple beatings. 1000 denier means I haven't (as yet) had to repair it. It's stood the distance really well

At the RDS I bought a Masta fleece for Ali... It was only €35, and it fits him very well, and he was quite a wide chest/shoulders... All Horseware rugs are too narrow for him and rub him badly...

My boy has huge shoulders and chest and most of his rugs have been Masta and he kills rugs big time but only managed to kill one lw Masta, so one out of about 10 isn't too bad.

I have Mastas on him now that have been in use for 3 winters and have not leaked, rubbed or had anything other then minor rips.

I brought a couple of landa's and they were too short for my boys! ended up having to for the size up for both of them - not happy!

It's a bit hit and miss I think - I just go to equestrian clearance and buy what's cheapest!

Masta rugs are brilliant and fit wider horses beautifully. Never had one slip or get wet through and highly recommend them.

I like the Masta Check Tech rugs on my ID, they fit him really well & he has a very big, wide front. Never had any leaks & rugs have worn well though they can be heavy to handle when wet (but very few 7' rugs are light!). I don't rate the couple of Zings I've seen though, the cut on them is nowhere near as good & they seem prone to falling apart if the get any abuse.
