Masta rugs

I think you'll be fine with it sadlesore. My filly has been out in torrential rain and it hasn't leaked. As I say, the only thing I didn't like was how the hood attached - much prefer ones with zips!

Ditto dun_in. My one & only Masta turnout leaked from day 1, is cut too shallow to fit properly esp at the quarters, has v nasty sharp trigger clips that cut my thumbs & then stopped working & the stitching is coming undone all over the place.

It's just come back from having its lining repaired, being re-proofed & the leg strap trigger clips replaced as it's my spare spare, but it's staying in its bag until I'm desperate. Horrid thing.

Sorry, don't like Masta either. Have 3 horses all different shapes and found the stable one didnt even cover her belly and didnt fit the other one well round the shoulders. Swapped for other makes.

I wash and repair rugs as part of my business. Guess which ones need repaiting the most??? I find Mastas go along the horizontal seams and on the gussets. The then exposed edge of the material frays like mad. I would never buy one for one of my horses

Bears is cr@p!
It has rubbed all his fur off his withers and bits of fur off around the front seam, he had a soaking wet chest all the way back to his shoulder

He is now wearing his cheap and cheerful Robinsons jobby that I bought him a couple of years ago, brilliant little rug!
Weatherbeeta are brill!

Sorry, another thumbs down for Masta, they never seem tio fit anything well.

Weatherbeta, Mark Todd or Jumpers Horseline for me (would be Rambo but can't afford them now

I think we're in the minority... I like Masta rugs

They fit our cob and he's not huge, and our little lad (some sort of Welsh cross I think), but also not huge. Also have Weathabeta and like those too. Had a couple of Gallops, but they were huge on the chest

. Havne't had any problem with quality. When you get it, put a sheet on the pone and try the rug on top, then if it fits decide if you want to keep or not

As the owner of several (ok loads) of rugs (see sig) these are my findings:

I have several Masta turnout rugs for my iberians and they seem to fit very well, one of them is at least five years old and when cleaned comesup like new! In fact have just bought a foal turnout Masta and, despite a very athletic foalie, it does not move. Have to admit though, I bought a stable masta with a hood last year and I hate that, it slips round AND back. I do like Fal rugs though and I have a few of those that are now fairly old, again they look like new when cleaned, they never ever move and the hooded one is the ONLY rug that has not rubbed out any manes. I dislike Horseware, they are never ever deep enough for my neddies and my 3yo can actually get out of his altogether WITHOUT undoing any buckles or straps - go figure! Weatherbeeta get a thumbs up from me too, not overly expensive, fit well and seem to last.

I love Mastas and my horse has 7. Whenever possible i go for masta and have never had any problems with them. 1 turnout rug is still going after 8 years, a stable rug for 7 (both very well used).

They used to fit my old horse OK, slightly chunkier ID x, but don't fit my ISH well. They rub him

I am on a tight budget so always buy Weatherbeeta as they are brilliant value for money. My horse's whole wardrobe is WB, turnout and stable rugs all brilliant.

absolutely rubbish IMO. I bought one that leaked and rubbed and all the filling fell down into the seams!

I like saxons, they fit chunky ponies well, (not to great on leggy horses, they come up a bit short in depth), never rub, never slip and never leak. Plus they last years. I used to work in a stud and these were a firm favourite as they were great value for money.

I have a lot of horses living here; all of my rugs are Rambos or Fals, and I do try to encourage my boarders to buy as good quality rugs as they can afford. When I see owners turning up with Masta rugs, my heart sinks

, because I know that they will be trashed in no time. Masta are the worst rugs I have ever come across, sorry. They often don't make it through one winter and then the owners have to go and spend more money on another rug to see the horse through.

Weatherbeeta are probably the best of the cheaper rugs available, however they still generally only manage one winter, occasionally half of the following winter.

Can you send them back? They really are false economy.

Mellys Masta is on its 2nd winter now and is brill, the retired boy at the yard lives in Masta's and he has had some of his since her was 2 or 3 - 13 now.
I think its a matter of choice, some rugs are good, some are bad.
Saddlesore, what size is the rug? If you decide you dont like it I may have it off you if Its the right size!! x

My mare is 7'3 and quite chunky around the chest and I have found Masta's to fit her perfect, tried others and they are either too narrow on the chest or not deep enough and look like mini skirts on her! They fit her perfect in length, chest and depth. So a vote for Masta from me.
