Hi
How is the sizing on the Masta rugs. I usually have Weatherbeeta, do they come up the same? Which do people prefer and what type of horse do they fit better?
Thanks in advance

I find my MW Masta techcheck (sp) combo rug comes up quite big on my TB as she is quite slender. The neck is huge and it does slip a bit when she rolls or charges round the field. The length and depth are ok, its just the width!

Her Weatherbeeta Oricans (combo and standard) fit her much better.

Thats just my experience though.

I have a 17hh id x and find the Masta rugs are abit shallow for him.And his fat belly hangs a fair bit lower than the rug.But have found the weatherbeta rugs much more generous on the depth. So i guess i would say i prefered the Weatherbeta's.

Love weatherbeeta rugs wouldnt touch masta, everyone i have ever used has always moved, rubbed so not a great fan, find weatherbeeta much better fit.

Masta are briliant rugs and fit big chunky animals very well. They are well sized.

I hate Masta, won't touch them. Or Shires for that matter. Weatherbeeta are ok, the stable rugs fit my horse quite well but the Freestyle turnouts rubbed very badly. The sizing is about the same I think.
I agree with PiebaldEaster though, Horseware is better!

Horseware dont fit her at all. She is quite broad. The Horseware fit my ex racer TB. Freestyle Weatherbeeta dont suit her but the gusset ones do. Can't seem to find a underrug/lightweight stable to fit under her combo outdoor when it's really cold. The Weatherbeeta seem tight across the chest so wondered if the Masta may be better sized??
Not tried the Mark Todd ones but local saddler said they only fit TB types?

I have same same Masta rug for lance who is chunky with a big neck, it is a perfect fit on him!
And its nice and deep.

Weatherbeeta's just arent generous enough for him.

ETS: That post was for OP not you S_C, you already know all that because you know him LOL!

all the wide chunky cobs and my big IDxTB at our yard (built like a toilet block) have Mastas. The IDxTB also has Horseware but Masta fits best. They are pretty deep in depth but the best part is they fit across the chest and shoulders.
Fal are also v good, equestrianclearance sometimes have some of them as well as lots of mastas.

never been impressed with weatherbeeta for big wide horses, only for narrow TB types.

Masta seem short in the back but roomy around the shoulders on our TB/X mare, but WB are a better fit, but much prefer Premier Equine rugs, deeper, better fit all round and well made..

I have a Welsh section B and a Welsh D x TB and have Weatherbeeta Freestyle Landa Combo for winter and Weatherbeeta freestyle landa light for the summer and they are the best rugs that I have had they are really waterproof and are deep and the necks on the winter weight ones stay up but neither of my mares are "beefy" across the chest. The only criticism that I have is that the summer ones have a detachable neck cover and they are useless - when the horse puts it's head down to eat they fold over towards to the horses ears and the attaching strap rubbed their manes, I did try double sided sticky velcro but that just came off when they rolled so I am going to see if the rug repairer can sew some "industrial" velcro on to attach them. If I was buying them again I would buy a summer combo as they ended up in them all summer because the weather was so bad. Equestrian Clearence is worth a look I got mine £20.00 cheaper from there.

Thats what mine is, Welsh D x TB - There doesnt seem to be many about does there.
Might be worth trying a Masta on her then, seems that the chunkier ones suit them better.
Thanks everyone for your posts, much appreciated!

We bought a Weatherbeata HW NZ (the purple check one) for our little pony this winter and I'm very surprised to be very impressed by it. It has a detachable neck, is completely nylon lined, stays put and doesn't leak - what more can you ask for?

My only criticism is that the colour doesn't suit him and he feels like a girlie in it!!!

In which case I'd suggest trying the Mark Todd rugs. My ID X has huge shoulders, the Weatherbeeta turnouts don't fit, nor do any Mastas, but Mark Todd is actually brilliant for big shoulders. Rug fit is very individual though and some people will tell you the opposite, but from what you've said you've tried and it didn't work, I'd say try MT next. Trust me, I'm a rug queen and I work in a tack shop!!

I love my WB's, they've fitted all (except one - a very difficult to fit 13.2hh native). My Welsh Cob wears an Orican and my TB x Luso has worn an Arion for the past few winters. Excellent rugs. Personally, I hate Masta's although when I had one it was quite a few years ago but it was dreadful! It leaked like hell and ended up in shreds (on a horse who had never even ripped a rug!) so I will never buy another!

Prefer WB have Masta and they never seem to fit right round the neck and also as someone else has said, they are not very deep. Although have a WB lightweight and it leaked last year, did buy it second hand off a mate so prob not a very scientific study!

Masta rugs are too tight on both my horse and also my ponies shoulders, Weatherbeeta suit them much better (they have Orican rugs), I also like Mark Todd, Shires Typhoons & Fal rugs.

<font color="brown"> From my experience Masta rugs do seem to be a little on the shallow side. Probably okay for a light, narrow horse but I prefer something deeper.

I'd agree with going for Horseware over either weatherbeeta or masta- I have had all types and weatherbeeta rubbed his mane and was tight across the chest. The mastas are quite shallow on Min's rump- He's also a welsh D x tb.

The best advice for Horseware though is to go a size larger than normal. Min is quite chunky and his rambo and rhino rugs fit him perfectly in a size larger than his other rugs (normally 6ft but I went for 6ft 3ins)
Premier Equine are lovely and deep and generously sized.

I use Weatherbeeta, Mark Todd, and GFS rugs on my bunch. No problems with fit or rubbing. I have a couple of Masta stable rugs but I wouldn't use the turnout rugs - I've had them in the past and they were rubbish.

i have a chunky cob and find Masta is really tight around her shoulders and chest, im not keen on their turnouts i find they arent overly waterproof either!!! their stable rugs are good though!
and i dont think weatherbeeta would fit her either although thye do nice rugs!!!

william funnel rugs arent overly expensive and fit nicely
mark todd are nice too

my fav are premier equine, fantastic rugs!!!!!! fit anything, reeeally nice good quality adn most their range is in the sale at the mo.. www.premierequineinternational.com
