Masta Zing lightweight turnout-any good?

nope, was never really waterproof have found masta never are.

we have the pe ones this year and they are doing really well atm.

I used to be a Masta fan, and at one point all my horses had Mastas, but I have to say that I wouldn't bother now. My mare's rugs usually last really well (she is the boss so doesn't have any of the others helping her to trash rugs!!) but the last masta I got didn't even manage a couple of months - and the lining split away a long time before I gave up using it! It never seemed to be waterproof like the old mastas did either.

A friend had one on the yard and it fell apart within months! That was the medium weight version, I used to have a lightweight one that wasn't waterproof at all, I then bought a masta cooler which comes down to my mares knees!! So I won't buy masta again!

Although having said that another livery has the check tech combo, and it fits her warmblood very nicely, but she doesn't use it much, so wonder if it too lets in water?

I used to adore Masta rugs and have several old ones that are still going strong but the newer ones are rubbish - they've changed both the cut and the fabric so they no longer fit and tend to leak. Great shame as the older style fitted mine like a glove and have lasted six winters with minimal repair and no reproofing.

Thanks for the post OP. I was considering one of these as well but now I''ll look for something else.

I need a lightweight turnout for a very very fine skinned warmblood foal. His coat is very fine, feels like silk to touch and the bloody weather over here is like October not August.

Just put duct tape all over mine - not very fetching. All the seams have given way - fraying- and he rarely wears it!! Absolutely rubbish. Not that cheap either. Disappointing.

This was the first rug I bought my boy and I will not buy masta again. It rips soooo easily and I seemed to be repairing it all the time. It also do not stand up to tugging at all, he's ni with a couple of play boys and they like to mess around and pull rugs and this one gave in every time.

Now have a castle lightweight rug and would highly rate it! It's not much more (Think I paid £30-£35 for it, paid £25 for the masta) and very waterproof. I've washed it numerous times in my washing machine with normal washing gel and it's still waterproof (didn't even realise you could ruin it like that before I read it on here....opps!). Hasn't been ripped once by other horses (Harry did get his leg caught in it but even then it didn't rip much, I fixed it and had no further problems) so would recommend it :)

I personally don't like Masta. I had one (I think the one you're referring to) and it didn't fit my horse at all so it got sent back pronto. He has large withers and a straight back, and it ended up back beyond his withers and right under his throat. Several other people have had similar experiences, although there is one lady I know who has a Quarter Horse, and they fit him perfectly. Can't comment on their waterproof properties as it didn't rain the day he was wearing it!
