Having blown up my faithful old Heinigers (:() I am on the hunt for a new pair of clippers. I am a 1 horse owner doing maybe 6 clips a year - horse in question is a cob who is clipped all year round.
Unfortunately my budget is very small so I can't get another set of Heinigers, and having seen good reviews I was looking at Masterclip. I'm just not sure whether to get the Rambos, Hunters, Royales or the Rangers?

Has anyone got any of these models?
 
I have the red ones, sorry can't remember the model name. I've done 4 clips all ready this year on various people's horses and they are perfectly adequate. Which reminds me I must sort out getting my blades sharpened.
 
I have the hunters i think. Green ones
every 5 minutes they stop clipping and i have to tighten the tension up again. :S I don't know why they do that! They have been trouble from day 1 to be honest :/
 
I have the hunters and they have been fine - btw I emailed the company and they had an ex demo pair that they sold at a reduced price.
 
Yes mines a connie with a super thick coat. But I also did my friends heavy cob including legs and hogging, an ISH and have in the past done tb's and welshies. I think they are about 2 years old now and have done my own and others each winter with them.
 
They've done a shire x (v hairy!) an ISH and a hunter type. Also hogging and feathers (and my OH's arm when I first got them because I wanted to try them out :) )
 
I have the Royale cordless and they are so easy to use, I love them. However as Masterclip quite rightly say, they are suitable for TBs or similar( which mine is), and would struggle with a thicker coat. So probably not the model clippers to go for, but their others may be more suitable for yours.
 
As someone with 20 years experience in clipping machinery, mostly spent working for one of the big manufacturers, I would not recommend any of the "Made in China" cheap brands. I have seen some on the market, which in no way would pass an electrical safety test and should not be on sale. When you buy from a trusted source, you are also paying for back up, spares availability and quality. You need blades made with German Steel, not re cycled T34 tanks and you need reliability and quality of production. Neither will you get for cheap!. I have recently seen several E Bay sellers marketing second rate machines with Chinese blades for £99!!! You get what you pay for. At the moment, C L I P P E R S H A R P have their new Rodeo at a good price, or the Heinegar Xperience. Plenty of choice at different ends of the price scale.
 
I have the large blue clippers & also some rechargeable trimmers - I have been happy with clippers do a cob that is clipped & hogged all year round & a tb - had them serviced every year & have had for 3 years & no problems with them - trimmers are ok but have had better - I use trimmers to take feathers off & it can sometimes e hard work x

Good advice.
i have no idea, but are Masterclip one of the ones Made in China?
 
I have the green hunters , they are now three years old and clipped tb, Shetland, cob, welsh, ish and fell with no problem. Masterclip customer service is great too when buying other products.

Funny how the person above slates them but says they have an offer on another make.

tbf, the poster does recommend different clippers by two different brands so i doubt he has a bias in selling us a specific model for his/her own personal materialist agenda!

All she notes is to stay away from cheaper brands made in China which i think we all would know they may not be the best quality on the whole anyway.

talk about getting jumped on for offering an opinion!!
 
I would give masterclip a ring they are great the best thing is they have all the spares on site so they don't have to be sent away if they go wrong i have ordered some new blades from them good luck its a minefield out there !!
 
I'm not jumping on anyone, I'm saying the forum states no advertising let alone promotion of your own product.

Could have simply said beware of these brands was the point I was trying to make.
 
I looked at them at Burghley a couple of year ago as my Liveryman were starting to die after 12 years sterling service. The only thing I found with them was they didn't feel balanced to hold, the less powerful ones were better but I wanted the bigger ones and they were bottom heavy. This was enough to put me off.

If you care to check out my profile, you will find I have tried to give un biased advice on what is good and what is complete crap for quite a while. I have over twenty years in the trade, seen people get well and truly stiffed paying good money to rip off merchants for sub standard products. I recommended two different make clippers from one supplier, mainly because i used to sell product to that particular firm and always found them to be honest, fairly priced and market leaders in supplying good quality kit. If anyone wants to check out what is Chinese crap, I suggest you go to Ali Baba and do a search for "Horse Clippers"...then compare the items being sold to what is on offer in the UK...trust me...you will spot the Chinese stuff easily. At the end of the day, the only recommendation I can realy give is "Caveat Emptor"! Happy Clipping folks....
 
I have the dual sheep and horse clippers. I did have an issue with the initial set, but I cannot fault their customer care. They sent out a brand new head for the clippers, and then the motor went after shearing a few sheep, so they have replaced the entire unit for no charge, despite the machine being 20 days out of warranty.
I have since bought a sheep shearing set so they are no longer needed, but would certainly recommend them on their customer service alone :-)
 
The Engineer comes on here every year round about clipping time and gives experienced and imo unbiased advice on clippers and all things clipping, which I for one appreciate. I don't think there's any agenda there, apart from being helpful.
 
My liveryman arena ones are giving me jip, so was contemplating buying a masterclip set, still contemplating lol

mine heat up quickly, tried tensioning them differently after mentioning it to someone more experienced than myself and it still didn't work, they are ok for doing a belly and neck but anything more than that I'm fed up of waiting for them to cool down all the time.

Motor popped couple of years ago, sent them for repair/service, they came back fine, blades were attached clippped lovely, it must be something i'm doing, soon as I took blades off to clean and put on next time I used them heated up again.

Its a shame as they clip really nice like a hot knife through butter until they heat up

What oil do you use and how often?
 
I have no 'problem' with Masterclip BUT... they are an IMPORT company. They do not sharpen their own stuff and I'm not too sure about service. It is fine if you want to buy cheap but you cannot expect a £100 clipper to be of the same quality as a £300 set. They are great for folk on a budget but you cannot compare them to renowned brands like wolseley, lister, hauptner or heineger. The people that make these things know their way around patent loopholes, not clipping machines.
