can any one tell me about equine mastitis? I think my mare might have it. I have called the vet and am waiting for them to return my call but I could do with some information pleasE?

sorry, can't help with equine but Joker the cow has it right now, well it's going now. She got given something by the vet, not sure what though as i wasn't there and she had to be milked! Which would have been rather funny to see as none of our cows are milked and Joker is not the milking type of cow!

Hope she's feeling better soon!

Hard swollen, hot udder, painful if you touch it - doesn't have to be both side.

If left unchecked swelling will/can track forward towards girth (OH's mare had got right to girth in the time we were at work)

We had a course of norodine first time she had it, 2nd time it wasn't enough so we had a course of 5 days jabs which cleared it up.

Vet did say to milk her if we could - I think it may have been too painful for her
