I have a 9am 3hour maths exam tomorrow and I decided to go eventing 4hours away! And I didn't start revising until yesterday....ooer!!

Given all my cancelled events I had to make other plans which included this trek to Little Downham and in two weeks another trek down to Eridge!

Because I have this stupid exam I asked to go as early as possible so that I could get back to Cardiff at a reasonable hour. The secretary obliged and put me first! So needless to say we went up the night before!

I'm going to skip over the Dressage quite quickly. He is always a hot head and we normally get around 41 with the odd late 30's test. However today he came out of the lorry like an absolute nutter. We went over to the arena backwards/sideways/in circles decidedly out of control. Needless to say it didn't resemble a dressage test and we only just got a qualifying score and deservedly so. Naughty little ****!! ;) ;) ;)

Thankfully he picked up his game in the jumping and although he was very wild and not listening to me he really tried even when he ran himself into trouble. Unfortunately (as per my current form) we had 4 faults. (I saw a flyer into the treble and we had the middle part down...my bad!)
This was frustrating because a double clear would have cheered me up immensely after our performance in the Dressage arena but having seen the scoreboard and seen how many problems it caused the 4 faults now seems pretty good!

Onto the XC. I knew the course wouldn't suit him because it was so twisty and he needs big parklands so that we can gallop and get into a good rhythm but he wasn't too argumentative. The first half didn't flow very well but once we were through the sunken road and there was more galloping we got nicely into our stride and he went really well. So clear with 8ish time faults.

Annoyingly had he done his normal 41 dressage we would have picked up another rosette but hey ho.

Thanks for reading/watching but I'm afraid I have nothing on offer - unless you fancy my 'Monster' energy drink!

:P :D :P

Looking great in the photos!! I thought I was mad even thinking about going to an event that far away before exams - but you went that one step further into insanity by doing it :p

I'm actually quite jealous that you have a full bay with no white as must be great on the morning of the event to not have to wash horse again  and also the fact that you showjump before xc in the int classes, here in all the int classes I've seen the showjumping is always after the xc!

No thanks on the monster, red bull is my revision beverage of choice! :D Good luck for your maths exam :)

Best sort of revision! You were counting fences and strides and times weren't you? Thats all maths right? ;)

The jumping phases look & sound good, shame about the DR but you survived it which is the main aim right?

Good luck in your exam!

Well this makes me feel slightly better...I have a 3rd year uni exam on monday and instead of revising I have been having lessons, pulling manes, washing tails, organising my feed bay and god knows what else for the past week. Feeling totally unprepared but my horse looks great! Ahhhh, the life we lead!

I've not really followed many of your reports but what's he like in a stronger bit? In the SJ it just looked like a constant fight?

Well done re the jumping and commiserations re the stressage. Rosie can empathise with you on that - Bert warmed up really nicely then messed up every movement by spooking at flowers/jogging etc..
Good luck with the next outings and those exam thingies :D.

I did see the results - v frustrating re the stressage, as you say, you could havr got a good place given the problems the SJ was causing. Still, good solid jumping performance, and in't it just great to be back underway again? :)

Blooming horse! But we just need to remind ourselves that we're only doing it for fun, it doesn't matter, no one cares about the record, he was bought for pittance, he's sound and he's jumping well for me round Int SJ & XC tracks and hopefully **/adv soon. So....one can't have everything!! (Although I would appreciate it if he would go back to his normal 40ish tenseness rather than this 50's malarky :P )

Cheers for the replies guys!
