My sister has just taken over looking after a pony that had been left abandoned in a field for a year and although his feet need a trim and he's a bit (a lot!) fat he's pretty much ok, very friendly and loving just a pet someone got bored of. The only thing is his tail is horribly matted all the way through but she really doesn't want to cut it off, is there any way of untangling it at all or is chopping it off the only way of sorting it? Thanks guys. x

is it like in dredlocks????

We had a pony like that, we literally just washed it then went through it with just fingers, took absulute hours but it worked

Yep, apparently it's just one huge dreadlock, haven't seen it myself yey, just pictures of it looking fat

. Sounds good, think we may be spending a day with the baby oil then, from the sounds of it it's gone beyond washing with water. Thanks! x

I used to have dreads myself.....and can help here!
Wet the tail (with warm water). Cover the tail in liquid human hair conditioner for dry/damaged hair. Leave for say, 20mins.
Shampoo, rinse with water, then condition normally.
Hope he looks lovely when done!
S :-)

Ooh, was that how you got them out? My brother had dreads but just shaved them off in the end (they kept getting caught when he had his head under his motor bike). Been tempted to get some myself but put off by the thought of having to shave them off if I got fed up of them. Thanks for the tip! x
