Looking at these because they do one for 'backwards' girth grooves. The lambswool cover costs more than the girth if you buy them separately. Is it possible to use the girth without the cover? I've no idea if the design will work for us so would rather shell out the £70 odd for just the girth in the first instance but obviously no good doing that if it has to have the cover on for use!

I don't believe you can use it without the cover as it has a plastic insert in the middle.
I went with a Prolite in the end. It works very well with a fluffy girth sleeve and the Shires Supafleece one will go over it despite being a straight sleeve.

Thanks, she's already in a Fairfax which is great other than the saddle slips back when we're hacking. The Mattes is the only one I can find that is designed for a backwards rather than forwards girth groove. I think it's the solution but not sure and it's pricey to try, can't find a second hand 'athletico' anywhere!

Oh poo. I wish I could find a slightly cheaper design to do the same job! Or a second hand athletico - surely there must be other people out there with this problem?!
